Old modern technology

This time 2 years ago, my 3 brothers were the only ones in this family that had moved into the modern technology.
I'm talking about cell phones, digital cameras and a computer. Not exactly up to date technology, more like old modern technology!

Me...
April of last year, I moved up in the world when I was given my first used computer (got a brand new one, February of this year) and in August I got my first used digital camera (got a new one in June of this year). August of this year I got my first cell phone, ever.

Hubby...
He got a new cell phone and a brand new tv.

Sister...
She had a cell phone (for emergencies only), but this year her and her hubby worked hard to get their very first used computer. Way to go sis! Still no digital camera or printer, but I'm sure they will be working on that next.

Parents...
Mom's sister had given her a computer, but she never got it hooked up, by time she did try, it had been ruined by toddler twins pouring their milk inside it.
Parents moved this year and dad it the jackpot. My dad is a scavenger, you throw something away and he is likely to find it and try to fix it. He found a computer, it did have its problems but worked for games. My brother came down and tried to fix it and he went and got mom a brand new computer. My other brother has given mom a cell phone on his plan.

Dad managed to find another computer and again my brother came down to fix it for him. Dad didn't get a brand new computer, but after my brother got through with it, it was close to brand new. At thanksgiving, my dad was showing everyone that he got a digital camera. He was thrilled over that camera. Today he calls me from his very first cell phone! Mom had bought him a reconditioned phone, but after trying to set it up and having problems. The company sent dad a brand new camera phone!
He exclaims...In the last six months I have jumped into modern technology!

Now my whole family (other than one sister) is just a few steps away from the newer technology.

Now that I have written this out and reviewed it, the only things we should need for Christmas is clothes!

What a year for my family! We all get gold stars! Right Mom?

Woo hoo...welcome to the world of technology! My problem is learning how to use the stuff I have! Funny how I can hand anything to my kids and they seem to have an inate ability to know how to program, run, etc... When I can't (and it's often) figure out something, I get the hubby or one of the kids...they think I'm an idiot, oh well. Now, you just need an ipod...I don't know how to program that either!

Suzicate...Thanks! I am still learning new things about all this stuff. Just a few days ago hubby had to show me how to view my own number on the cell phone!

I will have to get high speed before even thinking about an ipod, I can't download nothing! LOL

Are you able to pause live TV yet? Once you can do that you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

If the gold stars are big enough, you can wear those for clothes. Am I right, folks?

John...No! Hubby wishes!

Mjenks...Them would have to be some REALLY big gold stars! Not an appealing image! LOL

AHA! Congratulations! Ain't modern technology grand???

Good for your dad...re-conditioning all those computers and being willing to keep trying new things!

Cute! You know, I held out on the cell phone thing until I had my daughter. Even now it stays turned off in my purse but charged in case of an emergency. Not used for anything else, just a bit of security. BTW, I've had a computer and digital camera for years.

I have a love/hate relationship with technology. I love all the perks it grants us...I hate having to upgrade the stupid stuff. I have a techie-type hubby and I swear that by the time he gets around to updating something it's already out of date. Drives me nuts. But I love it all at the same time. Weird, huh? I'm pretty sure all the technology is messing with my head. =)

The interesting thing is in our family the young people are all luddites and it's us older folks who are the geeks - 20-somethings who barely can manage email; 50 and 60 somethings who are whiz-bang technology geeks - it's not like the young'uns weren't exposed to all this stuff, they just never showed any interest. Weird, huh?

The problem with technology is that once you use it, you can't live without it.

Kathryn...Thanks and yes, but expensive.
My dad was reluctant for a long time, we are still trying to figure out this sudden change in him.

Menopausal...My cell phone was supposed to be for telling me to get off the internet and call them back, but if I have a good connection speed I don't want to shut it done.

Mindy...You are very lucky to have a hubby that understands computers, mine wont touch it or even turn it on!

Grace...I have noticed that the older generation is coming around slowly. Like dad, who swore he would never have a computer and all the "crazy" extras. Look at him now!

Great post! I just bought my 13 and 11 year old their own laptops for Christmas - the school requires them to do power point.. crazy!

Love to you and Merry Christmas!

SMB...No way, I would slap someone's fingers for trying to take my cell or my computer!!

Kelly...Thanks for stopping by and thanks! They are going to love that!

Actually what I meant was the older folks in our family have been using computers and technology for 30+ years. Some of us do it as a profession, so these kids grew up with the latest technology and never showed an interest and still don't - that's what's weird! It just never interested them.
