Hubby's b-day

Some times I think I need to officially move the hubby's birthday to a different month.

Here we go again, hubby's b-day/Valentines day is upon us and it is right at the time that we have the least amount of funds. It happens every year, it's sad really, I can't remember the last time I got him something other than Reeses for his birthday. Not that we really do birthdays around here and thankfully he really does like Reeses but I was hoping I would be able to do a bit more this year. After all he gave me a big scare last year and I would like to celebrate that he has made it to another birthday. I just can't think what to do this year with the limited funds and he AIN'T gettin NO Reeses! When I say limited I mean I got $10 stashed away, I did have $30 but car inspection ate up most of it.

Am I complaining? Maybe a little bit but mostly I'm just trying to rack my brain into coming up with something cheap and brilliant. Do those two words ever go together? LOL! I'm thinking about what kind of man he is and the answer might be... no.

And I swear if he comes home saying he needs an oil change... well then, I will just have to trash the whole idea.

Suggestions are welcomed!

Unexpected House Guest.

Soo, on Thursday August 29th the hubby calls me. Okay that is not an unusual thing he calls every now and then but mostly just to let me know he is on his way home so I can know when to start supper. Those are calls I appreciate BUT this call was of a different topic and of one that I never thought my hubby would bring up.

His long time friend was in need of a place to stay for awhile, he is homeless and fixen to get out of the hospital for depression. Can he stay with us?

I was uttered speechless! In the 22 years of knowing my hubby, he has never asked such a thing. Yes, we have had visitors who have stayed with us for a weekend or even a week but never have we had a guest that had no leaving date. Honestly what could I say but sure, I guess that would be alright. I was thinking the hubs must really want to help him or he wouldn't be asking.

I got busy cleaning up the house a bit and was trying to figure where in the world are we going to put him. I thought maybe the old army cot that is hidden away in the closet or maybe rearranging the living room to accommodate the queen air mattress dad had given us just a month ago. Hubby got home and we talked. He was already regretting saying yes. Honestly he was hoping I would have said no and then the decision would have been out of his hands (yes, folks he wanted me to be the bad guy!). What was done was done and we were going to have to make the best of it. Where do you want me to set him up at? Don't set up anything, he can sleep in the recliner, I don't want him getting too comfortable that he wont leave.

His friend showed up the next day. I had met him a few times through out the 22 years but hadn't seen him in at least 11 years. I swear, I hardly recognized him. He looked so worn and sullen compared to the soft and lively person we had known back then. Alcohol had really done a number on him. I had my time with the stuff and know all too well how bad it can get. This was probably a 8 1/2 out of 10 bad.

I made it VERY clear to the hubs that there was to be NO alcohol in this house, PERIOD. As hubby and I are both recovering alcoholics, I didn't want that stuff in my house. He did relay my message. When his friend went to hug me as soon as he walked in the door, I was on the verge of vomiting, the odor of alcohol on his breathe and in his sweat was soo overwhelming, it was sickening. I guess he thought since he wasn't going to be able to drink he would get in a really good one before he got here. He pretty much slept the days away (in the same funk he walked in the door with for over a week!), just waking long enough to pee and eat. I was seriously grossed out, he only showered twice the whole time!

My living room is... 2 chairs and a couch, coffee table and our only tv. 13 x 15 room, not very big, just right for the 2 of us. I had been booted out of my chair, mostly stuck in my office/kitchen area. I think I watched maybe 6 hrs of tv the whole time he was here. Hadn't had any decent conversations with my hubby in weeks.

Yes, folks he was with us for 3 weeks! But the hardest part was the not knowing if or when he was ever leaving. When the 2nd week rolled around, hubby asked if so-and-so would come and get him if he asked. The response was yes but then nothing happened. Hubby was getting angry, apparently his friend misunderstood him or was blatantly ignoring his request for so-and-so to come get him. 2 days later I was taking him to the store and I asked when so-and-so was coming to get him and he declared it would be the following Friday. I called hubby from the store to relay the somewhat good news...

Hubby says... she is 2 days late!!! LOL!

Okay before you go thinking that I am being very harsh and uncaring, I assure you that is not the case. Hubby and I live in a (maybe) 2 horse town. The job opportunities are nonexistent without transportation. Hubby and I both were shocked and very disappointed to find out he didn't have a car or even a license, there is literally no hope of finding something in his line of work way out here. Thankfully he did have some money to pay for his own smokes and non alcoholic beer (I caved slightly after seeing him sitting there shaking, it seemed to help him psychologically), he did provide for himself. He did clean up after himself, which I was truly grateful. We just didn't see anyway for him to get back on the right path being stuck out in the boonies with nothing to do and no prospects.

All I can say is that we tried to help him as best as we could. I helped him file for disability but that could take years to finally be approved. He had to make his way back to the big city if he was going to have any chance of finding his footing.

Honesty... I am glad that I have my house to myself again, glad that I get to spend time with my hubby again, but feel ohh soo guilty for being glad. I know we did all we could but it just feel like it was enough. Oh well, I will get over it. You can only help a person that is willing to help themselves instead of drowning life away in booze. When he is truly ready to throw down the bottle, then he will be more willing to get his life back on track.

There are times when I do consider myself on the lazy side. I put some chores off, I stay home most of the time, watch tv, mess around on the computer, crochet...etc. NOPE, I'm not all that lazy at all, I have seen the true definition of lazy and it is disturbing! He slept, ate, watched tv, the most exercise he got was walking back and forth to the fridge for his fake beer and going to the bathroom a million times!

I do wish him the best of luck and I am glad he was appreciative of us putting him up for a few weeks. Too bad it wasn't a life changing  3 weeks. It definitely was for us!!

Old man wanting a motorcycle...

So the hubs came home with the old familiar words on his lips... I want a motorcycle. (he only tells me this when someone at work has one for sale)

I have heard these words many times in the last 10 or so years, since he sold his last bike. He wrecked that bike and broke his collarbone. Add that injury to the major neck injury and of course the first question in the line of questioning (what is it, why do you want it and how much)  was...

"Who is going to hold it up for you?"
    I can do it! (a little whine in it for me to know that I asked a silly question)

"Why do you want it?"
    For the gas mileage. (Okay, I knew that was coming)

"What kind is it?"
    (he said but for the life of me I can't remember)
      "Never heard of it"
         It's European.
           (The first thing that flashed in my mind was "They drive on the wrong side of the road")

I blurted out (without thinking)...

"What side of the road does it drive on?"

We busted out laughing!!!!!

6 Random things about me and the hubs...

What could I possibly tell you about me and the hubs that most don't already know?!
I will give it a try.

Me:
I crochet... alot! I currently have 7 projects going at once. My office is covered in piles of yarn, projects and patterns... to the point of "Don't touch it or it will cause an avalanche!"  And here yall thought I was sooo organized! LOL!

Hubby:
He has fallen hard for this new kitten in our lives. He checks to see where she is, how shes doing, even wants to be updated on her litter box success's. I get what he is going through, she's got me wrapped around her sharp little claws too. After all we have gone through trying to keep the kittens alive and only having one survive, we are both constantly monitoring her progress. But I find it funny to watch this gruff and tough man get mushy with the fur babies.

Me:
Between work (crochet), raising kittens for the last 6 weeks (3 hour feedings, litter training..ect) and fighting to get ANY moment of sleep that I could, my house and yard have sorely suffered! Seriously, I feel like different folks live here, like a lazy alien has taken over my body. The weeds in the dog pen are taller than the dogs... where is Taco? See those weeds moving, that might be him. LOL!

Hubby:
I asked hubby if he put the little tiny check (rained out week) in the bank.
Hubby... No, it's in my wallet. I decided to donate to the cause.
Me... what cause?
Hubby... the "cause" my wallet was broke.
LMAO!!!

Me:
I have gained 10 pounds in a year! I have been anywhere between 210 to 216 most of the last10 years. I stepped on the scales a few weeks ago and wham, a whopping 225! Crocheting is fun, creating is fun, getting paid for it is even funner but gaining weight while doing it is not in my definition of fun! Lets blame it on the ice cream! LOL!

Hubby:
The Salmon vs Samon.
I have always pronounce it with the L, hubby does it with a silent L. Whatever! Potato, po tah to. Tomato, to mah to.  He KNOWS what I am saying, been saying it that way all my life. Suddenly now he decides that it is something to mess with me about. Vigorously and with rolling out of his chair laughter! The dude is gonna get hurt if not by me then by falling from the laughter! One way or another, it's gonna happen!

February's New Dish

Last week I was sitting there in the chair telling hubby I still haven't thought about what February's new meal was going to be. Up pops a commercial for sloppy Joe pies. Hubby looks at me and I look at him and we decide that is what it is going to be. It looked good!

I proceeded to roll out the biscuits..hmm. Maybe some flour will help and that wax paper my sil was talking about. Yeah, it's working!

Set them out on the pan...hmm. I can only set 3 out on the pan at one time. Hubby walked in and suggested taking one biscuit for the bottom and one for the top. Sounds good to me.

Scoop in the sloppy joe mix, sprinkle some cheese and top with other biscuit.

Toss in oven...hmm. Well first thing to remember for next time is to seal the biscuits with some water. They are separating.

Bring out of oven...hmm. Maybe next time I should use the glass pan or raise the rack. The bottoms are a little crispy.

Set on plate and serve...hmm. Next time I definitely need to bust it open and let it cool off before serving. The noises we were making cause it was too hot for the mouth was making me laugh.

After dinner was finished... we both decided that there wouldn't be a next time.

It wasn't a thumbs up or a thumbs down, it was average. We do average enough, we are looking for something different.

NOW, hubby says that since that meal wasn't a great success, I need to do a different February meal. YEAH RIGHT, BUSTER! He's lucky I still remembered to do this challenge. :)

January's New Dish

So two days ago my hubby was having a craving for french fries, big ones with peel. I pointed towards town and said "there is a Bill Millers right down the road!". He did not find that very amusing, even though I was laughing.

Since I promised I would try at least one new dish a month, you guessed it... I made french fries! Your probably thinking..."well that's not new" but for me it is. The last time I tried to fry potatoes (umm, probably 18 years ago) it turned to mush. I admit I can't fry. I actually do try to avoid all recipes that involve frying.

As soon as I decided I would give it a try, I called my bf for backup (the best fryer I know). First we did a trail run of 2 fries. Yup, my temp was too high. After some slight but edible trail runs, I successfully managed to make decent fries! AND the hubs loved and raved over them!

Only bad part is...

NOW HE WANTS FRIED CHICKEN!!!!

I've created a monster!

Wonder if he will notice the KFC bucket in the trash!

Morons Hurt too

When I met my hubby I was thrilled to know he had kids but then disappointed to learn that he wasn't in their lives. I had always secretly hoped that one day this would change. Slowly this did change with the oldest, found the son and then the youngest found hubby. Things were starting to look like somewhat of a family. Not so distant after all. I guess with my experience of an absent mother, then a dreaded step mom, I learned to keep to myself and have found it very difficult to extend that closeness that some want. I do have a huge tender spot for the grandkids but most of the time feel like I am a fake, imposter, unwanted extra family member. Honestly since I haven't birthed or raised any children, I am at a loss as to how to be or not to be. I know some parents, step parents and in laws that are all up in their grown kids business. I have always disliked that and well frankly wouldn't know how to be like that. With grown step kids, I honestly don't know them all that well. I guess I don't know how to get people to open up to me or vise versa for that matter. I want to but don't know how to be the "Pushy" one. I'm not the type to reach out and impose my presence onto a person and of course neither is my hubby. Hubby being an absentee father with all of his kids, doesn't know how to be any different than what he is. A laid back recluse or hermit if you will. He is the type that if he has something he needs to talk with you about then yes he will painstakenly use the blasted phone. He is not a sit on the phone chatting the day away kinda person. If "they" (anyone, not just the kids) want to talk to me then they would call. Heck he doesn't even call his own mother (who he loves dearly)! Unfortunately, this is the total opposite than want one wants. What they really want is their father and for him to be better than what he is. Sadly, he doesn't know how to be more than what he is and for some that is just not enough. I know that feeling all to well. My expectations for my birth mother were crushed and I hate to know that I am party to those feelings for one of his kids. BUT I got a hard lesson on how it feels to be on the side of not living up to expectations. Let's just say it hurts just as bad, if not worse. I "DO" understand the other side of it and totally agree we are morons on how to impose ourselves. Sorry I can't continue... Sigature,Heather

My December... Day 4

Joyous... well if you really know me than you would know I am joyous (not a word I use, ever) at how my little crochet business has kept me pretty and steadily busy for the last few months. A true blessing when one was needed.

I guess my biggest joy is that I have a hubby that doesn't drive me crazy...much (hehe). I talk to my mom every day and the things she deals with from my dad...lets just say... Oh boy, do I love the hubby! He would never do or demand like dad does. BUT then again, I would never do or demand like mom does. (love you guys) Just thought I would throw that in before I get in trouble! LOL!

Another joy I get is listening to my namesake in the evenings over the phone. I can hear her giggles, screams happiness and sleepiness. The joys of bath time, the squeals of delight over green beans, the screams that the cat took her crayons, the giggles of chasing said cat... the girl just makes my day! ♥

That is about all I can think of at the moment, the pain pills are kicking in so I best bid yall a goodnight.

Oh wait.... grandkids...It fills my heart up with joy every time I think about our beautiful and wonderful grandkids.

Okay, now it's a good night.

My December...Days 1 and 2

Apparently I need to relearn how to blog! It has been soo long since I even thought about just blogging for the heck of it, I don't even know where to begin.

I ran across this photo challenge and thought it would be fun to try to write a post about each day using the prompts listed , hoping it will get me back into the swing of things.

Soo since I missed the first day and nearly catching the tail end of the second day, I will do both.

On the 1st... My view was really awesome! Hubby was outside racing the lawnmower all over the yard, he misses Nascar already! I can already tell it is going to be a long wait till February for the racing to start again, BUT in the meantime I will have freshly mowed leaves and dead grass! LOL!

I also just love to see all the red and yellow leaves all over the back yard. We have trees all over the place and the one in my back yard is the only one to turn such lovely colors. I have no clue what kind of tree it is.

On the 2nd... I would have to say my ultimate most favorite holiday movie is "It's A Wonderful Life". I can watch that movie every year and every year it still makes me cry. Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Berrymore's performance in that movie was just nothing short than spectacular. As most of you know hubby and I watch alot of old movies and we have seen lots of performances from all these actors but this movie still ranks pretty high on our list of great ones.

But speaking of movies... We watched the 1949 version of "Little Women" with June Allyson and Elizabeth Taylor this evening and hubby stayed up till it was over. I was silently laughing to myself at the thought that "this" movie had his attention and wouldn't let him sleep! LOL! I have seen this man sleep through horror and action movies and even scientific and history documentaries (all his favorites btw), but yet this "chic flick" "date night" movie has him up. Yeah I was dying to laugh out loud!

Bits of this and that...

Well here we are again almost two years later and I am headed back to the eye doctor for those bifocals that I needed but didn't get. Wondering if I should go for a different look or stick to what I like best. I'll let ya know how it goes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was getting a whole chicken ready and stuffed for the oven. I put the stuffing in and sewed up the skin to hold it in. Hubby has asked me a few times over the years...if he was ever to need stitches, would I sew him up? My response has always been a HECK NO!! Well, he came in the kitchen just as I was sewing up the bird and said...You will never be able to get away with saying no ever again! HA, wanna bet! LOL!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since our sudden change in smoking habits since April, we have been doing good. Although hubby did start smoking again, he is still down to half a pack a day, like me. It really helps that I have implemented a no-smoking in the house rule. I truly believe this rule is the only reason we are doing so well, it forces us to have to go outside and in these temps...you have to REALLY want one! LOL! I also noticed that it has brought me and the hubs some good quality chat time, sitting on the porch together instead of competing for attention over the noise of the television.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I guess that is it for now. Hope yall have a good week!
"Have I done anything significant in the last ten years?"
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the day hubby should have been killed by that pipe that whacked him across the head and cracked two vertebra in his neck, busted his eardrum, broke his ear and a hairline fracture on the skull. This has left him in a strange mood today. I'm sure it didn't help matters that he had to put our cat down today, I know how much that pains him to have to do that.
He asked me a very powerful question that I at first didn't know what to say to.
"Have I done anything significant in the last ten years?"
I hadn't realized it had been 10 years since the accident, I didn't grasp to what he was referring to or looking for. I asked stupid stuff like...you mean around the house, for us or generosity towards others?.
In general, he says. Like what have I done with the 10 years I shouldn't have had.
I was stumped.
But then I blurted out... you've been wonderful to me, you provide and are constantly doing things for me! AND hey we ended up getting married 6 years ago, that wouldn't have happened if you had died. PLUS you've had grand babies, to which he replied with a "that would've happened anyway". I countered it with "that you have been able to see and they have had the opportunity to love you. You also might want to think on this...it would have been torture for your parents to have had to bury their son.  After a few moments of reflecting on these he agreed I was right.
AND now that I have had a few moment to reflect on this, I have come to the conclusion that it really isn't a matter of what you have done with your time it is that you were here for that time and just your presence has an impact on those around you.
What's on my mind this morning...
Well I am quite concerned of hubby's health. Him not smoking has left him with some major coughing spells and some deep wheezing in his chest. Things that he already had before but not as severe. I know it is his body trying to release all that junk in his lungs but dang it gets pretty scary. AND I hate to see him in such pain.
My kitchen area is a disaster! I have 6 large bags of yarn sitting here on the floor waiting to go to mommas house. I also have 2 bags of groceries to take to daughter's house AND the table is covered with my bags of stuff to take to the arrival of my niece. Which none of this can be loaded into the car till the time to head out...
Which leads me to when is that kid going to arrive! Nobody knows, whenever she darn well feels like it! haha, She is in a rush for NO one, she is currently now past her due date. Yes this one has been on my mind for the last 3 days...pins and needles, pins and needles.
I have 8 teeth left in my head and naturally one of them is loose and hurting. Not super bad, more like an annoyance really. Ohh, I long for the day when I will never have another toothache! Just 8 more $75 visits to go!
Ugh, NO! Money get out of my morning!
Sitting here looking out the window and thinking maybe I should mow today. LOL! Yes, I probably should, but the probability of me actually doing it is very low. haha. BUT then again it's not like I have anything else to do today but sit here and wait for that phone call...
Silly kid didn't get the memo that the oven timer has already gone off!
Well it's time to head outside and see what I can get into. Yall have a great day!
Laughing through the sickness...
Wow, what a week! I am so glad that is over with and I survived, although there was a few times when I wondered if I would.
It all started with (I'm guessing since I never go anywhere) the Fiber Fest I went to last Saturday. Monday evening I noticed a little tickle in my throat, no matter how many times I tried to clear my throat the worse it got. Hubby got up and I told him I think I caught something. He responded with the usual...I better NOT come down sick, cause if I do...I'm going to have to murderize ya. Haha!
By Tuesday my throat was on fire and I was definitely full blown sick. I hardly remember Tuesday or Wednesday, I slept through both days. Thursday was a more alert day but not by much. Hubby called me (as he usually does when he is on his way home) and asks...What is you choice of weapon?
What?
How do you want to die? (scratchy throat voice)
LMAO!!! Your sick?
Knife, gun, bat...?
Stop it! Your killing me! (I was laughing so hard and coughing at the same time.) You forgot to mention laughter!
Later that evening I glance over his way and he is glaring at me.
What?
I love you.
Oookaay. (spooked)
You know the only reason your still sitting there is cause I love ya.
LMAO!!! Good to know! Dodged a bullet on that one.
He lights up and moves like he is going to get up...Bullet you say...that's your weapon?!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!
All in good fun folks, no evilness in this funning.
Friday was 50% better than Thursday and I even managed to get some chores done. I posted the kittens on craigslist and even managed to get all three of them rehomed. On my way home from the grocery store I noticed this car behind me looked alot like our car. I glanced at the clock and it was only 1 pm, I shook my head and told myself it wasn't him but it turned everytime I did. Finally on the last turn I just knew it was him, the poor sick boy was sent home from work.
Spent the last two days watching him sleep and when he is awake.. boy oh boy is he a baby! I sit here wondering if I was that miserable or is it the "men are babies when sick" syndrome. Poor guy, I really shouldn't pick on him but he's so cute and helpless when he's sick.
The only good thing about him being sick is I got two whole days of being the Remote Queen! I'm gonna miss that. LOL!
Count to Ten, Breathe and try not to Scream!
This morning started with me opening my eyes, looking at the clock and determining it is too early to get out of bed especially considering this is the third time I have opened my eyes already. First at 3, then at 6 and again at 8. I slept 10 minutes more and Taco was at my door barking to be let outside. I grumble in frustration and go ahead and get up. I didn't even make it to the coffee and hubby is grumbling about the mess that Little Boy had made with the living room in his attempts to find a window that he could get out by. I clean up the mess, head to the coffee only to realize that there isn't any!
Get coffee going, head to the bathroom. The litter box is rank, so had to deal with that. Hubby had thrown a large pile of laundry right in the entrance of the bathroom, I nearly tripped over it this morning, so I guess it is going to be a laundry day. Whiskers threw up and as soon as I had that cleaned up, he did it again! Mind you I still haven't had any coffee yet!
All of this has had me going to the trash can a few times, YES the trash can is overflowing and hubby commented that it needed to go out. Sigh (with some grrrrs).
Hubby informs me I have to hurry up and get to the grocery store, he is on his last bit of Sprite. I sigh. I grab a pen and paper and start my list. BIG sigh! I know I have said it a bunch of times BUT "I hate grocery shopping!". The prices depress me.
Hubby also asks me about his dollar coins that I should have picked up at the bank yesterday when I was there but forgot. This throws me over the top and I get snippy at him. SIGH!
What the heck is taking the friggin coffee so long!!!!!!
Bad sleep, let dogs out, Little Boys mess, NO COFFEE! Litter box, laundry, cat barf, NO COFFEE! Trash, grocery list, snippy at hubby, STILL no friggin COFFEE!
I cheat and steal half a cup from the unfinished pot. Quickly do my budget as I swig it down and am out the door headed to the grocery store. I get back and hubby is busy loading the truck with the trash to take to the dumpster. No help this time. Grumble, grumble. As I am still unloading the car, hubby comes back and informs me that the truck is overdue for an oil change. Okay, since I am still on my feet and outside, I'll head on over to the parts store and pick up the oil and filter.
Ohh but first come look at this, the truck is a quart low on oil. This is why I don't want you taking this truck on long trips! AND look at this hose...he touches the hose...gives it a pull and there ya go! I am officially broke down! The hose broke off and guess what...the parts store doesn't carry it! I'm going to have to try to find it from the dealership.
Thankfully for yall, I am sitting here and finally getting to drink my coffee and hopefully calm down.
Now to get back to that laundry! (But I really just want to go back to bed and try to start this day over)
April Fools!
We all know hubby is very funny... ohhhh yes very funny, hilarious in fact. In case you missed it, that statement was drenched in sarcasm!
It is April Fools! I knew that several times today, it's my nephews b-day, the anniversary of my grandmothers passing, the lot rent is due... It was there in my mind off and on all day...It was when is wasn't that he got me!
There I was sitting there crocheting, needing to get up and stretch my legs. As I was standing there, I thought..hmm some ice cream would be nice. I took 5 steps, just 5 steps and he blurts out...
Where ya going?
(It did stop me in my tracks but only cause I was feeling guilty for wanting some ice cream. What I should have thought about was that he never asks me that, I should've been suspicious)
To get some ice cream.
He gets up out of his chair and stands inbetween the doorway...What kind?
Fudge swirl.
That's not that kind you gave me last time is it?
Me being brain dead said... huh?
You know the one that had cream in it.
Haagendazs?
Yeah that one, I don't like that one.
No worries this is a generic brand.
Oh good, I'll take some.
I go to grab a bowl and only get one.
Your not going to get me a bowl?
Oh, I'm sorry. I look down at the bowl and realize it isn't even the right kind of bowl. I tell him..Man, I am losing it!
He stands there laughing. (should've been a sign but I missed it)
For getting ice cream, I always run the scooper under hot water.
I reach and turn the knob and....
Splash!!!!
I'm sure I let out a little scream from the surprise. I saw the water stream at me and quickly turned off the water. I knew INSTANTLY what had happened, he pulled this on me once before many years ago. Yes he got me! There I was standing there with a soaking wet shirt and this boy was laughing so hard his knees were weakening, he could barely uttered the words...April Fools!
What did he do, you ask?
He put a rubber band around the spray nozzle at the sink!
It may not be April Fools day when he gets is payback, BUT believe me, the boy is getting some payback!!!! I'm a slow thinker which will give me plenty of time to PLAN!
Kittens!
In kitty world...
This year has given the neighborhood 3 pregnancies. Stripey and Star our my neighbors cats and Orange aka Momma kitty is mine. Stripey had her kittens a week ago, under the neighbors house. I have yet to see them.
Yesterday Orange was sitting on the porch and hissing at her 1 year old children one minute and then the next loving on them. The loving part was my first clue (haha), she hasn't been nice to them since they were weened.
My second clue..She was meowing an awful lot and it appeared to be directed right at me. I tend to stand at the storm door and look out at them, most of the time I am doing a head check or just making sure we have harmony going on. Every time I went to the door she would start talking to me..nonstop!
Third clue...She is not a touchy feely kind of gal. You might get away with touching her on the top of her head and down her shoulders before she lets you know you have abused the privileged of petting her. She let me pick her up, rub her belly, just basically any thing I wanted to do.
Fourth clue...her tummy was hard as a rock!!!
I told hubby I think she is in labor, he told me to set her up something in the storage room. That right there was a freaky moment, hubby never says stuff like that!
So, I set her up a little bed, food and water and brought her in the house for the first time ever. I took her to it, she laid in it but wouldn't stay. She had to be where I was. She meowed so much and loud, she was interrupting the news and hubby made her go back outside! LOL! After the news was over he let her back in.
I moved her spot to my room but had to keep the door closed cause Whiskers was not having another cat in the house! This lead to more meowing and Whiskers pawing at the door to show her who is boss in here.
I laid down for a nap, I was thinking that she might not let me cause of all the meowing but no, she got up on the bed, rolled over and let me rub her belly and fell asleep. I told hubby...the way she is acting is as if she was at one time a house cat. She was already full grown when we moved here, so maybe she was.
We had a peaceful sleep last night and at 6:30am I woke to the sound of a kitten mewing...ON MY BED!!
I quickly got the box, put her kitten in it and she stepped right on in. Changed the bedding and stayed up till she had two. I fell back to sleep and by 10am she had four.
Hubby... a gamer?
So I was sitting here on the computer playing one of the new games I got. It was a hidden objects game with lots of puzzles in it. Hubby is really good at those sort of games. I had been playing the game for a few hours when hubby got home. After supper I resumed playing and couldn't find an object, I was grumbling and hubby walked by and asked what was wrong. I explained what I was looking for and he took my seat.
I'm talking about a man that has sat down in front of the computer a total of maybe a dozen times for brief moments to view things that I have already pulled up for him.
He sat there and finished the whole game!!!!
Stomped by an Elephant
This 8 inch tall, 4 lb elephant candle holder was in a group of 5 other trinkets. I was in the process of moving these trinkets from their over crowded spots to a new location as soon as I found one. So they were sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me to figure out where to put them all, I needed the table so I again moved them to the counter top. Basically I have been shuffling them around searching for somewhere to permanently tuck them away AND out of the way. This still hasn't happened.
Yesterday evening while fixing supper (okay fine..It was corn dogs..don't judge!) I went to turn with the box of corn dogs to put back in the freezer and WHAM! I had knocked over this elephant and OF COURSE it just had to land right at the base of my big toe, right on my bunion!
I screamed, hollered, winced, cussed and repeated this process repeatedly in just a under a minute. I'm sure there were a few OMG's in there too! Hubby yells...Are you okay? I couldn't answer him, breath was being used for other things. Since I didn't answer he got up and came in the kitchen...Are you okay? What happened? I turn my head and point to the assailant laying on the floor.
He picks it up and says............ The Elephant stomped on your foot?! I couldn't help but let out a little laugh and say...Yeah and he shocked the piss out of me! Literally! (TMI? sorry) Hubby walked away laughing, yup he sure did! Left me there in the kitchen with my foot up in the air and my body hunched over the back of a kitchen chair, still wincing and well you know using my breath for other words.
Last night I soaked it, nursed it, baby'd it and still it swelled up to a nice youthful plump, too bad it was painful, I might have liked the new look. LOL! I was scared to go to bed and chance the dogs laying on it, bumping it or even me hurting it further with all the moving I do in my sleep. But I did anyway.
Now... most of the swelling is gone and I now have this lovely shade of purple going on and no it is not just veins!
Memorial day weekend
Saturday I spent the morning and the evening with the hubby watching some really great old war movies on the tv. I absolutely adore Van Johnson and he was a huge star of the b&w era, so manage to get my fix of him almost all day. During the afternoon I spent a few hours with my bf. I had a pretty good pile of things to take to her and we had some crocheting to share with each other. It was a good visit and we sat and watched History Detectives together (very interesting episode), it had been so long since we had the chance to just sit in each others presence. I do dislike that we now live so far away.
Sunday the hubby and I lazied around almost all day. I cooked twice and crocheted till my tush went numb. Then we took a nap. After the nap I was full of energy and the sun was setting, the temps outside had finally dropped down into the 80's. I decided it was a great time to get the mowing done. Watching the beautiful sunset across the sky made me long for my camera but I knew I had to finish the mowing before I lost all sunlight. Kinda a bummer to have missed the opportunity but at least the mowing got done. BUT before the mowing was finished, the hubby decided to come outside (first time since friday evening) just to aggravate me about my mowing technique...grrr. I was pretty peeved. I was very close to saying something ugly but thankfully refrained.
Meanwhile while mowing the race was on. There was about 77 more laps left to the race and Earnhardt was in 3rd by time I came in. Okay NOW this is a race to watch! I decided to sit and watch it while giving myself a foot soak. There I was sitting in my chair with my feet stuck in water and suddenly Earnhardt was in the lead. I was slapping my knee begging and pleading for him to go go go, while my whole body wanted to be jumping up and down but couldn't cause my feet were stuck in water!. It was torture! Only to watch his car slow down, he ran out of gas on the 4th corner just yards away from the checkered flag. OMG it was so disappointing but yet it was a thrilling race.
Tomorrow I plan to finish the yard, go to the grocery store, do some laundry and hopefully finish the throw I have been working on. Just a plain old regular day.
Yeah we really know how to party, huh?
This and That...
I'm sitting here thinking..Is it possible that I am losing interest in the process of blogging. Naw..not possible! I just don't ever seem to have the time that is necessary to dedicate to it as I should.
Ever since I picked up my crochet hook last September, there is nothing I want to do more. I have always been a crocheter but maybe only one blanket a year, if that. I have a blanket I was worked on for 3 winters. Since September I have done..6 queen sized blankets and have currently started number 7. I don't know what spurred this obsession other than once I did A blanket for one person, bam I had a list of people to do blankets for. Like enough to keep me busy for the rest of the year! Then I got into exploring crochet websites for patterns and I got carried away. Soo many pretty patterns and new stitches to try!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I got my new camera today and am dying to get outside and play with it. If only the stupid batteries would hurry up and charge.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I washed both the truck and the car by hand. The car was beyond filthy and The hubby's running mates at work was giving him a hard time about it. Fingering in "Wash Me". The biggest culprit is his friend Grumpy. He goes back to work in the clean car and
Grumpy says...I did a good job BUT I should have used a towel to dry it.
I said "Dang, I just can't make that man happy!"
Hubby says.."They don't call him Grumpy for nothing!"
LMAO!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hubby gets home Thursday night knowing he is going to be off for a three day weekend, so he hangs up his bib'alls and says aloud..see ya Monday morning.
I said..What, your not going to get dressed till Monday?
Hubby..Dang toot'in!
This afternoon he gets dressed. I asked him why.
Hubby..I figured I better get outside and mow so you would think badly of me.
Me..You nutcase! I was perfectly resigned to the fact that you was going to do nothing all weekend. (stupid girl)
The bib'alls got hung back up!
Me...No, No, No...I didn't mean it! Go ahead and go outside!
Too late. Dang it, will I ever learn?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The new kittens are such a joy to watch. I love watching them learn new things. Like getting their little legs to stand up, they sway at the attempt and I can't help but to laugh. Yesterday one had learned how to get out of the box. She is my little explorer, she has already learned how to roam all over the place and tumble down the stairs. Her other sisters are trying to follow her lead. He brothers on the other hand..well lets just say they are slower to try. They seem to be saying...why should we get out of the box? It's nice in here. LOL!!
Yall have a nice day!
