Over a cup of coffee...

Thought maybe it was time to do a Writer's Workshop post. It has been so long since I have done one, I'm a little foggy on the rules.

3.) How did your love affair with Coffee begin? (Or Diet Coke or Tea or whatever your beverage of choice might be.) (inspired by Buried With Children)

Oh boy this is right up my alley!

I've been drinking coffee all my life. That is not just a saying, I'm for real...all my life.

According to my dad I was getting coffee in my bottle, getting coffee from my grandpie and even stealing sips whenever I could. I recall dad and I going to a restaurant in downtown Bangor (I was about 6) and as soon as we were seated this woman (the same woman every time) would hold up two cups, one blue with Jesus holding a child and one pink with Jesus sitting with a group of kids surrounding him. She would ask "which one do you feel like today"? It was the highlight of my day to sit and drink coffee with my dad. That was the beginning of my love for coffee cause it was associated with the happiest times with dad.

Those days dwindled quite a bit when dad got remarried and started having more children but we still had our coffee times in the kitchen. After the move to Texas I wasn't in the mood to hang out with dad and dad was working and going to school, so coffee time was left in the dust.

We picked it back up in my teens with "lets walk up to Jack-in-the-box for coffee". I would get so excited for time alone with dad. One on one time over a cup of coffee, can't get better than that! Some of my most precious memories of me and dad were over coffee.

Even now if dad is coming over a pot of coffee is made and vise versa. Matter of a fact every time I visit someone a pot of coffee gets made. I have some how turned a cup of coffee a must when taking time to visit with someone.

Conversation just needs a good cup of coffee to go with it.

Wake up Sleepy Head!

Funny how this old woman still gets woken up by her father.

Ring...ring...call from mom or dad, the phone says. I groan, turn over and grab the phone. Helllllo in my rough sleepy voice.
Dad..you was still asleep? (well duhhhhh!) Wake up sleepy head!

I moan and groan as I creek my bones out of bed.
Me...What's up?
Dad...nothing, just calling to chat.

I'm thinking..seriously, this couldn't wait another hour? Oh well, might as well get me some coffee.

Dad...How ya feeling?
Me...fine.
Dad...I mean how are your aches and pains?
Me...Well dad I don't know yet, my body hasn't even gotten the blood circulating yet!

By time I get to the front door to let the dogs out, ohh...there it is...the ache creeping into my hip from laying on it all night long.

Dad...So what's on the agenda for today?
Me...Uhh, wake up for starters. LOL! Later today I need to go get some yarn for the Special Olympics Scarf project. They would pick new colors for this year and they just happen to be colors I don't have, then on to some grocery shopping.
How about you?
Dad...I don't know yet, your moms not here to tell me.
LMAO!!! (good boy)

Me...Did you take your meds?
Dad...Ohh, I better do that! You take yours yet?
Me...getting to it right now.

Me...Okay well have a good day and don't cook on the stove. (he tends to burn things and fills the house up with smoke) Thanks for the wake up call.
Dad...Yup, talk to ya tomorrow!

My Week

Where is she? The girl don't write or visit anymore. Your thoughts, perhaps?
Yeah mine too. LOL!

I have been here hiding in the shadows. I've been in a funk. Ever since my back went nuts and decided to make me walk hunchback, I've had good days and rotten days. Having a good day seems to cause a rotten one and so one and so on. Round after round we go, I sure wish this merry-go-round would let me off. Not just the physical aspect of it, but the emotional one too. I don't feel depressed or have any reason to be, but yet I sit here day after day not wanting to do anything or wanting to do everything. My happy medium has gone haywire.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well enough about that crap. Lets move on to the two good days I did have this week.
Monday:
The pictures that I sent off to be blown up and walletted, arrived! Hubby walked through the door with them and we briefly played "Catch me if you can". He was soo excited and in turn got me all excited. We spent a blissful evening going through them and sorting and cutting.
The next day I went shopping for picture frames. Since I was out and my back was feeling okay, I went to the hardware store for gardening supplies. Big mistake, but I didn't feel it at the time. I came home and got all the pitures ready to get mailed off or hand delivered. I was so happy with the end result, I went about repotting some of my newer plants. They look great and are reponding well to the transfers, but I really over did it.
Thursday:
I had an appointment with my parents. It is rare that all things fall into place to get to see them. They live just over an hour away, to some that might not be far, but for my pocket book and truck it is. Vise-versa for my parents too. So I was pretty staoked at getting to see them and spend time with them. We did our trade offs (all the things we save for each other) and then went to see my sister on her break at the bus barn. She was super happy to see me, she screamed and come a running. All I saw was this bright yellow mass blurring it's way right into my chest! I just thought for sure she was going to bounce right into me and we would both go crashing to the floor! Thankfully I was having a fairly good balance day.
We (Mom and I)went back and got the old man, then we went shopping. We had a blast even though we mostly were browsing! Dad can be pretty funny at times. He was going around and picking up things that were the most rediculous, like a pair of super-duper high heels (ankle twisters) or a garden statue of singing frogs. He kept me and mom laughing (even when he didn't know it). We ate out, my first time eating outside the house in a super long time.
We then headed back to the house to do some computer work. I have tried all I know to get my mom on her computer to no avail. I hound her, I beg her and still she never gets online. Sometimes I think the only butts that have sat in front of her computer is us kids. Her excuse this time was the fact that her anti-virus had expired. So naturally I fixed that for her, so fingers crossed that mom will actually sit down and push the "on" button! LOL!
It was a long day but a really good one. The longest I have spent with my parents on a day that wasn't a holiday or birthday. Sad..I know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I promise (hand held to chest) I will be around to everyone's blogs this weekend! I swear! All 62 of ya! Yikes, that's 20 hours! Wait for me, I'll get there!

Writer's Workshop: Our wedding song

Mama's Losin' It

Hubby and I had our wedding in the park, a low budget affair with not a whole lot of bells and whistles, more like a Sunday bbq where everyone is dressed up.

My mother was the ring leader and I was the 2nd in command. I’m sure your thinking it should have been the other way around, but I really needed someone else to be in control. I did get all things approved by me first and mom was great as long as I kept her in check or she would have went crazy and had me wear a tiara or some other crazy thing like that.

In the plans for the wedding in the park, my mother was to bring a music cd that she had of some real soft classical music. I was supposed to go through the cd to determine which song was going to be used. This was supposed to have happened earlier in the day while everything was getting set up.

As you all know preparing for a wedding is brain frying work and the bride has enough on her plate as is, these little things tend to get lost or forgotten in the frenzy.

Needless to say I never saw the cd or listened to it. As I sit here now, I have no clue what happened to it. I had made arrangements with my BIL to bring his Cher cd for some lively music afterwards, you know while everyone was eating. The main song on that cd that I was most interested in was “It’s in his kiss”, it was one of the songs that was playing on the oldies channel on the radio (well the older version of course), that day hubby and I went for that ride together, the day we meet. In case you missed that post, you can read it here. Although we hadn’t kissed yet, the song lingered in the air that night. Leaving that song with special meaning for me.

Dad and I were all ready to walk down between the chairs to the canopy my mother had pain stakinly labored over. The music was que’d and the boom box was started. I was expecting some unknown soft song that mom had rushed to make a decision on.

Yup you guessed it! Dad and I walked down the isle to the bebop song of “It’s in his kiss”! The small group of family and friends, grinned, laughed and looked puzzling to each other.

I could see mom jump out of her seat to correct the matter, but the mystery cd was not right there and well it was too late now. Dad was up and out of his wheelchair and already walking. She sat back down almost as quickly as she had gotten up; she was mouthing “Sorry” to me.

I could have cared less cause I was already laughing and could see hubby was too!!

Writer's Workshop: Socks

Soo I have noticed a few of the folks I follow doing this thing called Writer's Workshop. It wasn't till recently I noticed this meme gives you several topics to choose from, so I thought I would check it out and see how it goes.
Mama's Losin' It
This week's assignments are:

1.) Choose a headline from The Today Show website and write up an opinion post based on the story you chose. I have reviewed the headlines for the last two days and either they get me agitated(or down right mad) or I really don't have an opinion worth writing about.

2.) Write a poem about the last thing that made you mad. Poems are Suzicate's forte. I do good to read them!

3.) Write about a joke that did not go over well. All my jokes end badly cause I forget parts or nearly all of them.

4.) Write a funny story involving socks. I do believe I can do this one, just don't know how funny it will be.

5.) It happened on Facebook...write about a funny or awkward conversation you saw unfold on Facebook. I am sooooooooo NOT going there!!

Socks..

Oh sure I could write about the sock that always seems to lose its mate, but we all know how that ends...The sock monster that lives in the dryer took it!

Okay so on to my little story...
As most of you know (especially the poor or just plain old), the entertainment of children was once something that had to come from your imagination. In our house the Sock puppet was all the rage! Now I'm not talking about a store bought fancy one or even the some-what fancy ones that you decorate.
Like this one:

Even this one is better than what we had:

No, we had just a sock, a magic marker, a piece of furniture to hide behind and lots of imagination. The sock of course had to be one of dad's socks, they were the only ones that would cover your whole arm. We would draw faces, you know...just eyes, nose and mouth. We never could get very imaginative with the socks cause dad had to have them back for wearing. He only had a few pairs and we couldn't afford for him to spare any just for play.

Soo, as you can imagine...Dad walked around with sock puppets on his feet!

Sunday morning standing outside the church yapping with another family, dad had a pebble in his shoe and proceeded to take off his shoe. The other man just happened to look down and saw the puppet. Dad slipped his shoe back on, in embarrassment.
It was too late, all of us had seen it. Thankfully dad was reprieved from his embarrassment, by the thunderous laugh of this other man. They both got a real good chuckle out of it. Me, I was giggling!

Dad bought new socks the next month and gave us the old puppets!

Now go see Mama Kat and check out the other Writer's Workshop posts for this week.
