The day I talked to my birth mother...

Well as some of you already know, I wasn't raised with my birth mother. It was just me and dad for 8 years till he remarried. I have seen her 4 times throughout my life and of course there have been the polite Christmas cards and the occasional birthday card. Since my Grammies death there hasn't been any contact with that side of the family except for those cards.

As usual I sent the Christmas card last Christmas and shortly after I received a short note from her wondering why I hadn't sent a picture like my brother did. Basically I was being chastised for being not as good and thoughtful as my brother. Which at the time stung a little but yet pissed me off too. Like SHE really didn't have the right to get on my case about anything! But yet there was that nagging little piece of me that said...Why don't you give her another chance? Surely she has calmed her ways and besides she is old now.

This produced a large argument with my conscience. If you only knew the words that were spoken up in my head. Phew, it was awful! I mean how many chances can you dish out in hopes of not getting hurt AGAIN? Deep in my heart I knew I must of been sending those cards every year in hopes of some kind of relationship. In the end my conscience won and I finally broke down and sent her some pics and a small note.

I wrote, she wrote (immediately) and had been going on for nearly six months now. Then I hit a wall. I knew she was waiting for my letters but for the life of me I couldn't seem to put anything to paper. I would try and throw away, over and over again. So I stopped and waited. Mulling actually.

A few weeks ago she gave me her phone number, I logged it in my book but couldn't muster up the courage to call. I hadn't talked to her, person to person since I was 11 with out somebody else being there as a buffer. It's kinda funny but I was actually afraid of her for the longest time, but that was mostly because I had expectations of who I wanted her to be. Thankfully I don't have those illusions anymore. I have come to think of her more as a long lost family member (like an aunt), than the grandeur of the word "Mother"

So today as I sat here with nothing to do but crochet, I picked up the phone and dug out my phone book. My finger hovered over the buttons for what seemed like forever then I dialed. I hesitated just long enough for me back out of it before I pressed the talk button. Suddenly my tummy was churning and I couldn't sit still. I was pacing the floor even before the phone was answered.

I believe it went well other than the fact that I was talking ninety to nothing and probably didn't even give her much chance to talk. My nerves had taken over and I dominated the convo. By time we finally hung up, I was exhausted! I had walked the length of the house probably fifty times in the span of an hour! My nerves were as if they had been hit by electricity, my hands were still shaking and if I was still a drinking girl, I would have seriously put a hurt on a bottle!LOL!

Soo...is my fear conquered? Demons demolished? Maybe not fully but hey...it's a start.

Wake up Sleepy Head!

Funny how this old woman still gets woken up by her father.

Ring...ring...call from mom or dad, the phone says. I groan, turn over and grab the phone. Helllllo in my rough sleepy voice.
Dad..you was still asleep? (well duhhhhh!) Wake up sleepy head!

I moan and groan as I creek my bones out of bed.
Me...What's up?
Dad...nothing, just calling to chat.

I'm thinking..seriously, this couldn't wait another hour? Oh well, might as well get me some coffee.

Dad...How ya feeling?
Me...fine.
Dad...I mean how are your aches and pains?
Me...Well dad I don't know yet, my body hasn't even gotten the blood circulating yet!

By time I get to the front door to let the dogs out, ohh...there it is...the ache creeping into my hip from laying on it all night long.

Dad...So what's on the agenda for today?
Me...Uhh, wake up for starters. LOL! Later today I need to go get some yarn for the Special Olympics Scarf project. They would pick new colors for this year and they just happen to be colors I don't have, then on to some grocery shopping.
How about you?
Dad...I don't know yet, your moms not here to tell me.
LMAO!!! (good boy)

Me...Did you take your meds?
Dad...Ohh, I better do that! You take yours yet?
Me...getting to it right now.

Me...Okay well have a good day and don't cook on the stove. (he tends to burn things and fills the house up with smoke) Thanks for the wake up call.
Dad...Yup, talk to ya tomorrow!

Connected to Loved Ones

Teusday afternoon and into Wednesday morning.
A huge phone day! I feel like I have been on the phone all day! Well actually I have, but I have enjoyed every minute of it.

First I talked with bff for hours and then to her mom for nearly another hour. I guess you could say I am still in shock at the turning events of having them in my life again. We have been talking nearly everyday getting to know each other again and the reminicing just goes on and on. The girl has a fabulous memory, which is good cause mine is shot! Getting to talk with mom was so emotional for me, I missed her so much and just hearing her talk takes me to a whole realm of happiness I forgot existed.

I later called and talked to another mom (i currently have five) who I haven't talked to in a few months. There was plenty to get caught up on, so that was another hour of my day.

Then I talked to bff again for about an hour, while we were both trying to get some chores done.

Hubby comes home and we sit down for supper and some tv, but then dad calls and just wants to chat. I couldn't turn him down, cause it is a rare occassion for him to want to do that. Another good 40 minutes pass.

I did manage to watch a few hours of tv with the hubby. Warehouse 13, Covert Affairs, and I started to watch Psych but hubby went to bed and I grabbed the phone again. I had a phone appointment with daughter-in-law for 11pm, but I called just after 10pm. It was on my mind and I didn't want to forget like I did the night before.

It was the first time we had ever spoken, other than through the computer. Sad, I know! IT WAS AWESOME!! Why it took us this long to do it, I don't know. She reminds me soo much of myself and we got along wonderfully. It was just so nice to finally get to hear her voice, get to know each other and make each other laugh.

We talked, laughed and shared stories for two hours!!

Even though they are all so far away, one phone call brings them right into your ear. Sometimes all you have to do is pick up the phone and dial. Don't put it off, take the time, it could be wonderful.

Phone Conversations

Conversation with Becky (bf) and Mike:

The other day, I call their house.
Mike.. What do you what?
Me.. To talk
Mike.. Not to me
Me.. Obviously! LOL
Mike.. She’s in the house, call back. (he is usually always outside in his shed)
I immediately call back and it’s busy, again busy.
I call someone else, someone is beeping in.(I ignore it)
I call Becky back.
Mike butts in and says..I was trying to call you, to tell you I forgot to hang up the phone!
Me..Your Alzheimer’s kicking in already!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today, Becky answers the phone.
Me.. Where is your hubby? (He is usually the one to answer the phone)
Becky.. In bed
Me.. Well, I actually did what to talk to him this time! What is his cell phone number?
Becky.. He is in bed, asleep!
Me.. I don’t want to call him, LOL, I just want to confirm his number!
We both are laughing.
Conversations with sister M and her hubby:
Phone rings,
Me.. Hey!
Sister.. You rang?
Me.. Yeah
Sister.. What did ya want?
Me.. Nothing.
Sister.. Are you bored?
Me.. Maybe!
Her hubby resounds in the background. If your bored, go to church!
Me.. What I am I supposed do, walk! (As if)
Her hubby.. Jesus walked everywhere!
Lesson learned, don’t talk to him right after he gets home from church.
Her hubby states (in the background) I’m going to take a nap. Don’t bother me.
Me.. Jeez! Sounds like he really needs a nap! Mr. Grouchy!
The next day..
Talking to sister, I hear her hubby in background.
Me.. I thought he was going to take a nap? Oh, yeah that was yesterday!
Conversation with Boo:
I was actually talking to sister M, but niece Boo kept butting in.
This had me and my sister M roaring with laughter!
Me.. What are boobies made out of?
Boo.. Water and air.
Me.. So if I was to poke a needle in my boobies, they will deflate?
Boo.. NO! giggle giggle!
Me.. Then your theory doesn't hold up!
Boo. Okay, do it! Go ahead and do it..Do it..Do it!
Me.. Believe me honey, if it would work, I would have done it years ago!
Boo.. Giggle giggle!
Phoneless Weekend
Saturday..
The phone rings a funky ring, kinda like a half ring. Hubby and I look at each other, WTF was that? I connect to the Internet and check my email. Just checking to see what comments I got that morning. I run off to get groceries. When I get home, I try to connect to the Internet again and it keeps telling me "No Dial Tone".
Now I had this happen before and all it took was some phone tag. Pick up one phone and make sure it is in the off position and replace to cradle, move on to the next phone and repeat the process, pick up the previous phone and Voila it works.
So I proceed to do this routine and nothing. I unplug and replug and still nothing. I call the phone company (the automated man) and get info on things to do.
Take an old fashioned phone with plug (yes, I still have one) and check the jacks. Okay did that and still nothing. Now go to the pole outside and plug it in there. Hmmm, it works at the pole, but not in the house.
I call my parents from my cell. Dad says he called but all he got was a busy signal. While talking to dad, mom's in the background yelling that she's been trying to call all day! In response to moms yelling, I said "You have my cell number!"
I threw that convo in cause it made me think about why hubby and I didn't think about calling the house phone from my cell.
Hubby went the entire length of the line and found a kink. Hubby straightens the kink and the phone works. I am happy to get back on the Internet again!
Sunday..
I wake to hubby all dressed and ready for his birthday lunch with his momma, but he's messing with the phone. Going outside and inside and grumbling to himself. Once again we have no phone. I try to tell him it's not a big deal today cause we have a busy day ahead of us. He informs me IT IS a big deal, he could be missing some birthday wishes!
I let him continue on his quest of fixing the universe, as I get myself ready to go.
He has determined that we need new line from the pole to the jack in the house. I'm like..did you measure it? No. Basically this just means, he's going to guess the footage and add a extra 50 feet. LOL!
We stop at Home Depot on our way to his mommas. He leads me to the electrical part and goes down one isle and determines that they don't have it.
Patience man! God forbid if he was to ask a worker for help! I am not that macho, I ask and am lead right to it.
We grabbed a few extra items so he can have his motorcycle phone sitting next to him in the living room. It really sticks out in the decor but I do put up with it. He doesn't ask for much. Although this little kind gesture (on my part) lead to where is my this or my that. Now I'm the one grumbling to myself!
As we are on our way home, his bff (Big Fat Friend (not my words, theirs)) calls his cell to wish him a Happy Birthday. They talk about the phone situation at home. Bff says the phone is working fine, it rang and the answer machine came on. I tried it with my cell and yes, it's working.
All the way home, we are trying to figure out what the deal is. We got nothing.
Spooky ass phone has a mind of its own!
It better cut it out, I have blogs to do!
