New Pillows

Warning this post may bring yawns! Sorry in advance.

How often do we think about the bed pillows?

Me, once a year!

Not because I want to, but because I have to.

Every year, I have to replace our bed pillows.

They get so flat that you can fold them in half, not quite to the point of staying folded but close enough.

I was watching Oprah, one day..many years ago..when I used to watch her..I don't anymore. Anyhoo..the program was about "When you should replace things" (I can't say that is the title of the program, but that is what my brain remembers), according to her and her little expert, bed pillows are supposed to be changed EVERY YEAR! Well, we are all supposed to know about the dust mites and such, so to be "healthy" we should throw them away.

And especially if you can fold it in half and it wont bounce back!

And every year I tell myself that when I do get new pillows, I am going to buy the high quality ones, not the $6 ones x4+tax.

But alas, when the time comes, I just can't force myself to pay those high quality prices. My $26 seems far more reasonable than say $70 to $80.

Why should I pay high quality prices, if I'm supposed to be throwing them away every year? (I try not to throw, I recycle for puppy beds)

I'm still not convinced that Oprah and her expert are right. I mean they have boocoo's of money they can makeup what ever kind of rules they want.

I would still like to buy a pillow that would give me the option to recycle or not.

Do the high quality pillows last any longer than a year? or should I say 3 to 4 years? That's how long it will take to break even.

What do you think or know? It's sad to say, but I could use a little help here.

Do you change your pillows every year?

Feel free to tell me if you yawned! LOL

Holy Moly! I've never heard of that!

I have a pillow from my childhood days, which would make it (I'm terrible at math), uhhh, rounding up, 25 years old.

Seriously! It's my favorite pillow made of goose feathers, completely flat, and I have to roll it, punch it, and basically put it on TOP of another pillow but I am soooo attached. Ask anyone who tries to use it.

Throw it away? *GULP*

Oh, I am so not the person to give you pillow advice. Our pillows are so flat my husband and I have to have 2 pillows each just to mimic the witdth of a normal pillow. I don't know why I have such a hard time spending money on stuff for the bed. $12.00 a pound for coffee? No problem! =)

ytycb...25 year old pillow! woooooow! Oh my, oh my, oh my, that's a little scary! I wonder if they are even feathers anymore, they might just be stems! LOL, LOL! I can't stop laughing!

Mindy...What kind of coffee are you drinking???
Gold plated!! That price would definately slow down my consumption of coffee!

I have one of those memory foam cervical pillows and at what they cost I ain't about to replace it every year nor does it need replacing. My husband would keep his flat pillow forever unless I make him buy a new one - it gets replaced maybe every two years or so. And yeah, they cost quite a bit, his newest pillow was somewhere around $40.

Ummm, I'm embarrassed to tell you how old my pillows are. I do wash them tho. But every year? No way; I love them too much.

No yawning here...but...yikes!

I think I'm in trouble. I mean, what you're saying makes sense when you think about all those mites and microscopic bugs with 11 legs...but I never really thought about it before!

I usually don't think to replace 'em till they get VERY flat...it's gotta be a couple of years at least.

Ew. Now I'm grossed out.

Grace...The memory foam pillows are the ones I keep telling myself to get, but yes they are not cheap enough for me.

Maureen...Seems like some pillows bring out the kid in us, like an old teddybear.

Kathryn...weird how many wait till they are super flat. I thought I was the only one.
Sorry to have grossed you out.

What do you mean the pillows aren't supposed to stay flat when they are folded? All of mine do! I do wash them and try to re-fluff them but even my newest pillow is over three years old!
