Puppy Gone

Yesterday was a bitter sweet day.

The puppy that I rescued last Monday evening was such a delight for me to have around other than the constant watching and trying to anticipate his needs to go outside. It has been a really long time since I have had such a small puppy that had no clue what the great outdoors was for. I had forgotten how frustrating and tiring it was to house break a puppy.

(Toys galore and still my slippers weren't safe)

Other than that it was fun, for me. I say me cause let me tell you everybody (dogs) else was in torment over this new puppy invading their space. Chaquita and Taco snarled, growled, barked and showed their teeth to the pup. Stitch on the other hand would practically stay in bed all day just to be out of reach of him. I got great amusement (at times) and frustration out of this. To me he was being quiet ridiculous, but I truly believe he was scared of that puppy. If the puppy got even just a little to close Stitch would run for dear life or try to hide under my desk. It had its humor! Considering the puppy only wanted to have someone to play with. Well that someone turned out to be the cat Peaches, she apparently loved him and was nearly a momma figure for him. Cute, but strange.

(If only Taco had know the puppy had snuck in to snuggle while he was sound asleep)

Happily and sadly, the puppy has found a new home. I searched and searched for answers that didn't result in being taken to the local shelter. I was saddened to find out that our local shelter is NOT a no-kill shelter. All of our other alternative shelters were full to capacity, I was beginning to feel a little desperate.

Till I remembered this organization that I follow on Facebook "Save San Antonio Pets". I took the chance and contacted them, hoping for some new leads to follow.

I know most of you were thinking I was going to or should have kept him, unfortunately that wasn't an option. I can only do what I can to find these drop-offs a decent home or hand them over to the folks that foster till adoption.

Well, after reading my post and corresponding with me through emails, the lady who runs the organization came and picked up the puppy. I was/am sad to have had to give this one up. He was by far the best puppy I have ever worked with.

(He was so good with the camera)

I will miss him and wish him the best in all a good family can offer.

Awe, just looking at that last photo melts my heart. I know he will find a good home. He is a heartbreaker and will have somebody wrapped in no time. That was wonderful that you did all you could in finding him a placement. You're a good person, Heather.

He's so cute! I'm really bad about keeping rescue kitties, so I completely understand. I'm not allowed to rescue kitties anymore. :(

I know it had to be a lot of mixed feelings when You had to give this little one up. I certainly understand. That last picture of him just breaks my heart. You did good, Heather. On your Nana page I said the cat was your best shot but I take that back. The puppy is the best.

Kudos to you Heather for giving him a little stability and a good (temporary) home. He will find his (forever) home soon, I have no doubts. And, I'm quite sure you made the right decision...I'm pretty sure Taco, Chiquita and Stitch would have picketed or something.

@Tinkerschnitzel LOL!! I think that is my hubby's fear, that I will lose my resolve and try to keep them. If I had my own land and the finainces for it, I would! LOL!

What an incredible face! Good, loving thoughts that the new owners realize how loving and wonderful he is. And kudos to you for giving him love in the interim....

Awe, he is such a cutie. If he is black lab, they are such good dogs. You did good Heather. He will find a great family and have a much better chance then he did on the street subjected to cars and wild animals. Look at that face, he was so thankful you helped him. :-)
