Stitch my Hero

Monday is still replaying in my head.

I had gone to town, done my chores and noticed how pleasant the temps were especially with no rain. I thought as soon as I get the groceries put away I would surprised the dogs with a walk. Pretty much all winter has been too cold or rainy, so they haven't been for a walk in some time. I quietly got their leases only to realize they weren't wearing their collars. It kinda took away the surprise part but boy oh boy they were excited. Stitch was so excited he started to cough and Chaquita was spinning in circles. Taco on the other hand didn't really want to go for a walk but no way was he going to be left out.

I always wait till we get to the gate to put their leases on. As soon as I cleared the end of the trailer I saw the neighbors pull in their driveway but didn't think much of it. I put their leases on and out the gate we went. They immediately went on a sniffing spree, pulling and twisting up the leases basically good walking fun. The mailboxes are across the street and positioned directly in front of the neighbors gate. That is as far as we got.

The neighbors acquired a very large female Mastiff some weeks ago. This dog saw it's opportunity to assert her authority on my dogs and took it. The gate had been left wide open and she was coming. With her big long strides it only took her maybe 3 seconds (if that) to get to us.

I was thinking that she would come and they would all sniff and that was that. No, she didn't even take time to sniff. She engulfed her mouth over Chaquita's body and picked her up of the ground and proceeded to shake. By the second shake Stitch jumped in and drew the attention to himself. The mastiff dropped Chaquita and went nose to nose with Stitch. She opened her mouth and engulfed Stitches whole head, shook him back and forth two or three times before the neighbors boyfriend grabbed her by the collar and dragged her away.

What was I doing in this 10 second assault? I was on my hands and knees trying to get my dogs under my body and screaming my lungs out the whole time. Chaquita was in so much pain and shock she was biting me for touching her. Stitch was screaming in pain and Taco was hiding behind me. They were all still right there cause the leashes were still attached to my wrist.

Stitch ended up with two lacerations, one on both sides of his neck and a fat lip. BUT all I saw was that my dog was bleeding and Chaquita was still screaming but I couldn't see her injury. I was still screaming and crying, so much so that the neighbors thought it was me that had gotten hurt. They immediately tended to Stitches wounds while trying to calm me down and see what was wrong with Chaquita. I calmed and Chaquita calmed. She had a really large bulge on her tummy, but no blood anywhere.

They helped me get them back inside the gate of my yard, where I finally came to my senses and said I need to call the vet. I remember hearing one of the ladies saying "Internal damage" and the other lady saying "It doesn't look that bad" But really I wasn't listening at that point, I just knew I had to get to the vet ASAP.

Flying down the road and breaking some speeding laws on the way, just barely missing getting stuck by a train, we made it there in record time. I had called hubby just moments after we left the house to tell him what happened and where I was going to be at. I'm not even sure he understood my blubbering...vet, dogs, Mastiff, attack...I guess those were all the word that came out. I'm still wondering how I managed to get us there safely through teary eyes.

The vet looked over Stitch first since he was the one that was bleeding. I couldn't believe my ears when he said that it was just a superficial wound and just cleaned him up and gave him a pain shot. He did say that it was amazing that he was walking because attacks like I described to him usually result in death from a broken neck or end up paralyzed. His words not mine...He is one lucky dog!

I am still blubbering the story out to the doc as he is examining Chaquita. He says..Herniated and surgery all in one breathe. My mouth stopped and my heart sank. They quickly started taping up her belly, I let out a little laugh cause Chaquita refused to use her legs after that.

Stitch came home pretty much the same as he went but with antibiotics and pain meds. Chaquita had to be left at the vets for observation and preparation for surgery in the morning. Heart wrenching to leave her there, I didn't even get to say goodbye or give her any soothing words, they just whisked her out of the room.

As soon as I got home the neighbor was there wanting to know what happened. I really didn't want to talk to her at that moment cause I had created this anger at their carelessness of not keeping that dog more secure. Then come to find out while talking with her that this dog had just done the same exact thing to my other neighbors dog a few weeks ago. I told her that my hubby was on his way home and she had better have that dog gone before he gets here and walked away to tend to my dogs.

Hubby did NOT shot the dog, even though he wanted to super bad. If it hadn't have been for the fact that her kids were home and standing right there with her while talking to him, I am positive of what would've gone down. But my hubby the softie when it comes to kids, calmed down and left the situation gracefully as a grumpy teddy bear instead of a fierce grizzly bear.

We talked about our worries and fears for Chaquita and hubbies final words before going to bed were...She doesn't even have her blankie! We tried to sleep, but to no avail. I even resorted to taking a sleeping pill but even it only worked for a few hours. The replay was constant and kept me on the verge of tears all night.

The long awaited call from the vet came at 11 am. Her surgery went wonderful! She had no other internal damage and the quick thinking on my part and theirs had all her parts back in place as they should be before her surgery ever got started. AMAZING!

I am thoroughly convinced that Stitch's quick thinking, heroic actions and selfless sacrifice saved his sisters life and possibly all of ours. He is my hero!

There are so many different scenarios that have run through my mind as to how bad it could have been. "If" they hadn't been on their leashes, she would've picked up Chaquita and ran off with her. "If" Stitch hadn't jumped in when he did, Chaquita would be dead. "If" the neighbors hadn't have been there to pull the dog away, Stitch would be dead. Soo many "If's".

I am just grateful everyone is still alive and are on the mend. Now if I could just get the replay to stop and let me sleep.

P.s. The Mastiff is gone! I don't know where or how, just happy that it is gone.

Randomness

Yesterday was a bad day for Taco, he was getting hurt left and right all day.
He tried to jump up on the chair and missed, he landed on his side and whimpered for a good two minutes. Scared him is all.
He wanted down from the chair and I raised my crocheting to let him pass and he jumped his face right into my hand. He has a loose tooth, so I know that really hurt.
He was doing circles in front of the door (The "let me out" dance), I go to open the door and Stitch rushes over and pushes Taco into the moving door. Hurt his right front foot.
I'm sure if he could, he would file "elder doggie abuse" on me! Really an "Off" day!
Today..he acts like he is going to try to sleep through this day. No chance of getting hurt while your sleeping, unless the cat pounces on him! Poor old man!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know most of yall are still being pounded by rain or snow and most think I am pretty lucky to be in Texas and to be getting spring already. For the most part I would agree, but believe me we are already hitting some problems.
For the last few days it has been gloomy and chilly outside, like it really wanted to rain. Heck it did rain all around us, but here at my house..Nothing. AND yet the grass keeps growing!!
The temps are already starting to climb back up and the fan in the livingroom decided to die and the AC in my bedroom isn't working right. One thing I have learned here in Texas, there is NO happy medium! Okay maybe there is but it only lasts about a week! It's either hot or cold, in a drought or flooded...warm with light showers is a rarity to be treasured. I want some of that!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I forgot to post my last project in crocheting.

It's really hard to tell, but there is a large heart in the center of the bed. I made this for my bf's birthday.

I am currently working on a blanket for my dad, I'm about halfway finished with it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you will notice there is a donation button for paypal over on the side panel, it is for a camera fund. I was talked into putting it up there, by a few folks. It's not that I don't already love the cameras I do have, they are both great in thier own ways. It would just be nice if all those features where in just one camera. Soo, I have been drooling over this camera for some time and of course the price of it is soo far out of my range it's pathetic.
Yeah, it sure is purty! I have it on my Christmas list, but the hubs hardly ever pays attention to the list, if he looks at it at all. He is NOT a shopper! LOL!
Sooo, I thought I would give the button a gander, we'll see.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I guess I ought to give yall a little update on some past posts.

Mom and dad didn't kill each other, they stopped talking for a day and now they are both back to normal with some extra umph and gusto at working out some of the issues.

I appreciate all of yall's help with the address labels and placed my order last night. #3 will be "mine" and #10 will be "ours". Between friends, family and awesome bloggers those are the ones with the most votes.

Gone to Doggie Heaven

Dash's daughter, who looks just like him

Brownie

Yesterday morning I learned from the landlord that our neighbors lost two of thier dogs within hours of each other. Dash and Brownie. I know I have taken a dozen or so pics of Dash, but can't seem to find any. I guess I thought there was more time to get a better pic.

Dash was here the day we moved in and greeted us. He was a friend from the beginning. My dogs loved him like part of the family. He would come over and scratch on the door asking for the others to come out and play. Nearly everyone that has come over to our house has been greeted by Dash either by barking or tail wagging depending on wether he had made up his mind about you. He was Chaquita's "want to be" boyfriend, he was very persistant in trying to get her to join his harem. He was so much more than all of this and we loved him. He will be missed greatly.

Brownie was Dash's mate. She was shy at first and was hard to get to know, but she came around as frequently as Dash, they were a pair and was always together in all that they did. She had such a sweet face and if you was lucky enough to touch her she would jump all over you as if you were golden, till the next day and you had to start all over with her. LOL! She was funny like that.

I did this post about them back in March of last year.

Apparently they either got into something that had antifreeze in it or the unthinkable happened and they were posioned. No evidence of where they got it has been found.

I do hope it was all an accident, I would hate to think that we have evil people living out here.

Soo yesterday was spent morning the loss of these wonderful dogs and also in fear of how their demise happened.

I'm going to miss his little bark.

Waking the Hubby

I sit in my chair with the foot rest up. I have a dog inbetween my calves, another along side my thigh and another at my hip. They are all under the blanket we use to cover ouselves, then I have a cat on my chest and another up on the headrest grooming my hair.

It is almost time for the alarm to go off for hubby to get his day started. As soon as he is up, I get to go to bed. Which is a good thing since I have been fighting sleep for about an hour already. I wish I could trust him to get up on his own.

Beep, beep, beep...

Dear! It's time to get up!

Beep, beep, beep...

Dear! You need to get up!

Beep, beep, beep...

Dear! Are you going to get that?!

Beep, beep, beep...
Grumble. Arm comes out from the covers and groops the air. It finally moves and manages to turn it off. AND he falls back to sleep.

I grab the remote and put the tv on the news.
2 minutes..Dear! It's time to get up!
Grumble, but no movement.

3 more minutes..Dear!!!
Movement at last, but nope were not there yet.

I tap Peach on the butt and she jumps down. I throw back the covers and 3 pairs of eyes stare at me like I am crazy. I say..up, up, up, let me up. Two get down.

I go get his coffee and stand at the table, waiting.
Dear! Here's your coffee!

It roars like a bear that has been disturbed. He blindly groops the table, when he finds nothing, he tries to go back to sleep.

Deeeeaaaarrrr! Your coffee is going to get cold!

I'm up.
His mouth says it, but his body didn't hear it.

I reach down and take the covers away from him. If that doesn't work then I shake his body at the shoulder.

*Cough, cough, cough* *Hack, hack* His body moves to get to the spittoon and whalla he is finally up.

Good morning dear!

I wait for the 2nd cup of coffee to be made, then I throw back the covers again. Okay kids, it's time to go to bed! We all get up.

As I drag my tired body towards him for a kiss, I say:
Love you Dear. Have a nice day.
Love you too and if you say so! or Love you too and I'll try to!
No matter how many times he says it or different ways he says it, I still manage to smile and chuckle.

I force the dogs outside for one last reststop and then it is off to dreamland!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Love yall and have a nice day!

Chasing Kittys

I was outside watering my flowers, as I "Try" to do every evening. Stitch had went out with me. As usual any time he spots a cat in the neighbors yard (which is everyday, they have 6 of them), he will bark his fool head off and run back and forth at the fence. If they are in our yard he will chase them out or up the tree.

So, he is running and barking. I am watering and ignoring him. I suddenly hear a ruckus and look. Not only is Stitch after this cat from our side but the neighbors own dogs were chasing it. With four dogs after it from both sides, it had no choice but to make a mad dash for the tree!

I walked over to the tree and looked up, this is what I saw...

Contortionist kitty!

Checking out the dogs

Straightening herself

Accessing the situation

Might as well get comfortable

View from the back

I laughed my fool head off at the way she was sitting on her butt in the tree!

Foggy Morning

I woke to Taco doing his "I got to go outside" noise, it sounds kinda like a snort/sneeze. It can be very annoying, but hey I can't complain, at least he tells me. My eyes fall on the clock, I groan. It's only been 4 1/2 hours! I stumble into the kitchen and then to the door. The bright light temporarily blinding me. Once I get my focus on, I realize the morning is so foggy I can barely see past the neighbors house. Photo op!

I quickly do a turn around and come in to get the camera and my flip flops. Yes folks I went out in the street in my nightgown! Not like anyone saw me, except for the neighbors dog, who greeted me with a some not so friendly barks. I had to make my presence known and then it was all wags between us. We walked to the field and I was taken aback by the pure spectacular beauty. I love fog, it makes all things glisten and the smallest things stand out.

The fog was disappearing right before my eyes, the timing of me getting up couldn't have been more perfect. Another 10 minutes and I would have missed it.

I walked back out of the brush (sorry excuse for trees).

To find cuteness waiting for me at the corner.

What a great morning!

Oh, to have a good back again.

I can remember back about 20 years ago I could do anything, lift anything, move anything. I was strong, still am too a point. I think I reached that point, again, for the umpteenth time. The beginning of last week was spent moving slowly, carefully or not at all, apparently I slept wrong and had to roll out of bed. I spent a good deal of time just sitting in my chair watching tv, cause moving wasn't an option. The pain was extreme at times but was tolerable for the most part. I even started to get better by Wednesday night and was beginning to feel decent. I could do my chores and even walk at a normal pace, heck I even went grocery shopping Friday.

Talking to the bf (B) Friday evening about crochet stitches and our new projects, we realized that it was about time to get together and show our work. It is really difficult to try to describe stitches and patterns over the phone. We are both "Show me" kinda gals. So we made plans for Sunday.

Hubby came home early Saturday and asked if I wanted to go over to see her right then. I would have said yes but I was still feeling the slight twinge and thought it best to wait one more day. Besides, come to find out her hubby was planning a BBQ for Sunday. Wouldn't want to miss that, since he is like the best BBQ'er I have ever known. Hubby is good, but even he will admit his bf's (M) is better. (Yes, his bf and my bf are married, it's a little confusing)

Sunday morning all was well and we finally got ready to go. I have to do a mental check list to make sure I don't forget anything, cause I almost always do. I always manage to remember something I forgot about halfway there. I was good this time and didn't forget anything, amazing, I know!

Camera..yup
Smokes..yup
Nail clippers..yup
Patterns..yup
Yarn and project..yup
Family Reunion memory card..yup

(We will get to the nail clippers, I know yall are puzzled over them being on the list)

So we are on our way, I have just a tiny twinge but I'm tough I can handle it.

Let me just say the sky was gorgeous Sunday and with the promise of a cool front pushing though sometime today. There was a breeze and oh it was so lovely, even hubby said so and it takes temps down to the 60's for him to like it.

We are greeted by B's three little yappers(kin folk to my yappers). Thankfully her yappers love us like family and were very excited to see us. There was lots of spins, jumps, running, dancing and happy panting. B..well not so much! LOL! Even the "I'm gonna getcha" didn't bring as much as a reaction I got from her "Old Lady P" yapper, who ran through the house like I was hot on her tail. We love that game, okay she really loves that game.

We sat around and showed stitches, patterns, projects and clucked like old hens. M..started up the fire and oh the smell had my mouth watering, I was ready to sink my gums into whatever he had in the pit. It didn't matter what it was, I was ready for it. *Knife and fork in hand, banging on the table* kinda hungry!

While waiting I thought, now would be a good time to get my chore done. I got out those nail clippers. Why? You ask. Cause they are doggie nail clippers! LOL! Yeah I'm cracking myself up!

As soon as the dogs realized what I had in my hand, *flash* they were gooonnne!

G.. got up on the couch and faced the wall. That is his way of saying "I'm invisable". Sorry fella, not going to work this time, even if you are being funny. I clipped his nails right there on the couch. After bending over and wrestling every foot, I went to straighten myself upright. Ouch, that kinda hurt.

P.. I always have trouble with this old lady. We are the best of friends except for these moments, she will try to bite but hasn't gotten that lucky so far. Lord help her if she ever does! I found her back outside and as soon as I tried to bend down to get her, she bolted. I on the other hand did not bolt right back upright, it took some doing. I finally managed to get her back in the house, picked her up and put her on the table. Again did a wrestling match for each foot, while trying to keep her from making the great escape. By time I finished with her I was having some really bad pains in my back, but had to move on to the last and craftiest of them all.

A..I looked in her spot under the end table next to B's chair. Nope not there. I call her and why I though she would come running was stupid of me. I go outside and ask if she was out there. Yup, there she was hiding under B's chair. I reached down to get her and she flops over on her back. I take hold of her legs and literally dragged her out from under the chair on her back and she let me. Everybody was laughing! I picked her up and carried her inside to the table and proceeded to do her nails. This girl shakes like there is a thunderstorm directly over the house! Very hard to hold onto. I think it is her ploy, her sympathy card or something and it works everytime. Yes she nearly got away, with only two feet done! I had to catch her in mid-jump! I finally finished her up, but really all of them together finished me up!

I was stuck but good. I slowly made it to the front door and hubby saw instantly I was done in for. He helped me down the steps and asked if I was ready to go home. Unfortunately there wasn't the option to sit there in pain all day. I had to say.. Yes, my pain pills were at the house and I would have hated to sit there in pain and be a downer on the whole get together.

Soo we came home, hungry. I felt so badly for ruining his day. To my surprise and relief, he said..
"I'm not glad that you are hurting, but I am glad to be able to see the rest of the race!"

Yeah but what about supper? We were both pretty hungry and totally missed out on the BBQ. Well folks I will have you know that hubby cooked supper. Okay so what if it was:

Gordon's fish fillets
Pork and beans
Uncle Bens whole grain rice
with hot dog buns

I got fed by the hubs!!!

Soo, I sit here with an ice pack and a pillow, soon to be in bed. Wonder how I'm going to get out of bed...maybe Stitch will help me! LOL!

Shocked, Mad and Baffled

How to make a mends with an evil dog...become the soul provider of food and water!

Yes another rant about my neighbors! They have thoroughly made me mad!

As you know from last post the neighbors received their eviction notice last Sunday. My office window faces their trailer and I have become the neighborhood watch person. The landlord asked me to keep an eye on the place, cause he had a confrontation with the woman and is fearing retaliation in the form of property damage. I'm also to report to him of when they show up to move out all their stuff.

Should be a super easy job, right? NOT! They left on the first, came back on the second, so I called. 10 minutes later I look out the window and their gone. Two hours later they are back..so I call. This time I watch like a peeping Tom, they unload empty boxes and leave again. They don't come back for two days!

In those two days I have been feeding and watering their dogs. These stupid heartless people, left their two dogs out in the heat with no provisions. The evil dog Nikki can handle the outside, but the little red long haired, house pampered chihuahua, has been crying and scratching at the door to be let in, the whole two days!

The landlord put a notice on the gate that on the fifth he will be putting a lock on the gate and that they needed to be totally gone by then. I keep expecting them to show up and get the dogs and load up all their stuff. Oddly enough this hasn't happened. They did show up yesterday morning for 5 minutes but didn't do anything, not even feed the dogs. They again showed up and unloaded the little pull trailer by dumping its contents on the ground and taking the EMPTY trailer away.

It is midnight Sunday morning the day of locking the gate and they haven't even tried to move out their stuff. They aren't living there, just their dogs are.

My heart is in turmoil for these dogs. Yes Nikki and I don't get along, but gezz I ache at the heartlessness of what these people are doing to them. AND on top of all that the landlord says that if the dogs are still there when he locks the place up, he is going to call the pound, the killing pound!

I must say that there are still people out there that still manage to shock me. I mean leaving the dogs behind, that doesn't shock me as much as the fact that they aren't even trying to retrieve their stuff! They are a large family with many children and yet not one has grabbed a bag of clothes or filled a box, that is shocking to me.

Looks like they will be leaving everything behind, dogs too! A big giant mess for the landlord to deal with. Maybe I will get off this subject eventually, please excuse my rantings.

I'm just so shocked, mad and baffled by this behavior.

Vacation Tanked.

I am so disappointed and upset.

Our plans for a real vacation have been shot down by..well all sorts of things. We had planned to go visiting family and friends in a huge triangle of Texas. Grand kids we have never seen and friends that we haven't seen in years and now my bff that I just now got back in touch with after nearly 17 years. The plans and financials had been made back in February. I have been soo good at holding on to a portion of our income tax return, just for this occasion. Even when at times that money could have been used for so many other things, this event was way more important to me. The use of my truck was the key to all of this happening and for some unconscious reason, I refused to make the obvious connection to the loss of my vacation.

My truck has been broke down since April!

Well, it does run sort of. I can take it to the store or the post office, but I have to let it sit and cool off to get it to start again. It chunks black smoke out the tailpipe and has a mind of its own when it comes to speed and brakes. I can't even get it fixed enough to pass inspection in two weeks.

It is the only truck big enough for us to take the dogs with us. If we take his truck we will have to find a dog sitter (I don't know anyone who would do it) or put them in a kennel (which we would never do even if I knew where one was). Bf's live too far away this time for them to come over and check on the cats.

The last time we went out of the area was four years ago. I was just wanting this so badly, I was ignoring the obvious complications in the plan.

How do people just get up and go when ever they feel like it?
How do they deal with pets?

Thankfully the kids are planning to come down next month, but that is only two of the six visits we had on the schedule. I hate when my head clears and problems are finally seen. Where the heck are my rose colored glasses when I need them?

Sigh...very disappointed.

Puppy Gone

Yesterday was a bitter sweet day.

The puppy that I rescued last Monday evening was such a delight for me to have around other than the constant watching and trying to anticipate his needs to go outside. It has been a really long time since I have had such a small puppy that had no clue what the great outdoors was for. I had forgotten how frustrating and tiring it was to house break a puppy.

(Toys galore and still my slippers weren't safe)

Other than that it was fun, for me. I say me cause let me tell you everybody (dogs) else was in torment over this new puppy invading their space. Chaquita and Taco snarled, growled, barked and showed their teeth to the pup. Stitch on the other hand would practically stay in bed all day just to be out of reach of him. I got great amusement (at times) and frustration out of this. To me he was being quiet ridiculous, but I truly believe he was scared of that puppy. If the puppy got even just a little to close Stitch would run for dear life or try to hide under my desk. It had its humor! Considering the puppy only wanted to have someone to play with. Well that someone turned out to be the cat Peaches, she apparently loved him and was nearly a momma figure for him. Cute, but strange.

(If only Taco had know the puppy had snuck in to snuggle while he was sound asleep)

Happily and sadly, the puppy has found a new home. I searched and searched for answers that didn't result in being taken to the local shelter. I was saddened to find out that our local shelter is NOT a no-kill shelter. All of our other alternative shelters were full to capacity, I was beginning to feel a little desperate.

Till I remembered this organization that I follow on Facebook "Save San Antonio Pets". I took the chance and contacted them, hoping for some new leads to follow.

I know most of you were thinking I was going to or should have kept him, unfortunately that wasn't an option. I can only do what I can to find these drop-offs a decent home or hand them over to the folks that foster till adoption.

Well, after reading my post and corresponding with me through emails, the lady who runs the organization came and picked up the puppy. I was/am sad to have had to give this one up. He was by far the best puppy I have ever worked with.

(He was so good with the camera)

I will miss him and wish him the best in all a good family can offer.

Pet Names

Sick and thinking weird and useless things. It might be the fever or just that I have finally jumped ship and landed in crazyville. Who knows, hard to tell since I know I am already nuts. Not really a huge jump to total insanity. Hahaha!

So sitting here (well actually in the livingroom)and thinking about the various pet names I have used in my lifetime. Don't ask me how this topic came to be in my head, but voila there is was and I followed through with it by writing them all down. Okay well I didn't put in the ones that weren't beloved long term pets, there were at least two handfuls of those.

Some of these names are very common, but then there are a few that I think are like "what were you thinking".

G-gave away, L-lost, D-died, S-stolen

Cats:
Jeremiah-G
Nehemiah-D
Ruth-L
Boaz-L
Buttons-L
Gizmo-D
Sam-L
Camoflauge-D
Cleo-D
Mohawk-L
Squeaker-D
Whiskers
Peach

Dogs:
Tasha-G
Misty-G
Alki-D
Smokey-G
Joey-S
Elizabeth-G
Sarah-G
Nixey-G
Bubba-D
Taco Bell
Chaquita
Stitch

Why did I do this list?
Who knows?
My brain has turned to mush and I have no control over the craziness that has seeped in.
Oh yeah, I remember now...
I was sitting there wondering if any of my bloggy friends ever had pets with the same names.
So tell me or tell me to go to bed with a box of tissues.
I love you all and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Abandoned Puppy

I was out walking in the yard with my camera. I heard a strange noise coming from the honeysuckle vine that is nearly a bush and practically climbed in it to see what the heck it was. It sounded like a puppy but I just couldn't be sure. I leave the yard and duck under the branches and sure enough, it is a puppy in the neighbor's yard.

The neighbor asks if it is mine. It is not his either. He was just coming to look at it, cause his kids had just spotted it in the yard. Apparently someone had just dropped it off. I was instantly mad! One of these days I'm going to catch someone dumping a dog and there gonna wish they had never thought about it.

So I brought him home and promptly gave him a bath right there in the yard. Poor thing was covered in fleas. Clean and wet and I'm sure scared out of his mind, I set him down in front of the food bowl. He ate and ate, I eventually had to take the bowl away from him.

Still slightly wet I wrapped him up and settled him down in Stitch's little bed. (Yes, Stitch is very mad) He slept for what seemed like forever. He got up, ate some more and diddled on the floor. Clearly he has had no training at his tender young age. He appears to be only 6-8 weeks old.

After a smell, a NO -plus finger wag and a brief trip outside, he was sound asleep again. I tried calling a foster parent of our local humane society, but she is full to capacity.

While laying in the basket, he started to chew on the sides of it.

This lead to me searching through the toys to find something that no-one plays with and meets the needs of puppy teeth. Thank goodness there was one.

After a successful rush out the door and a glorious treat for doing so, it was time to attack the new toy and wear himself out into a long nap.

Temporarily his name is "Bucket" for sooooo many reasons. The biggest reason is that he is a "Turd" Bucket!

What to do with no power...

Spent the evening watching the movie "Definitely, Maybe", fabulous movie btw. Was also waiting on my brother's 9pm call. Was planning on getting to my reader's list after the movie. Was debating on posting anything for today.

The movie got over at 9:30pm and I got up and called brother.

While on the phone with him, the power went out with a big bang. Naturally the phone cut off, but was giving me a buzz. I fumbled in the dark to get a candle, stubbed my toe on a kitchen chair. Got the candle and felt my way over to the stove to get a match, reached up and got the ashtray, a little over to the left, finally a match. I reach further up and open the cabinet, feel the side of the wood and proceed to strike the match. No go! I realized that it was not a strike anywhere match. (Insert cuss words of your choice..bloody, fudge and so on) I feel my way over to the desk and fumble for my cig case. I get the lighter and wouldn't you know it, the candle I picked up has no wick! I am using the lighter to shine my way, (insert more words) the lighter is burning my finger! I drop it!

In the dark again,I make way to the office, blindly reaching for the box of lighters on the bookshelf. Not an easy task, considering the big bang scared Chaquita so bad she was practically glued to my feet. Yes folks, I found this out the hard way. I had no idea, since I couldn't see her. It hurt both of us! Thankfully grabbing the bookcase kept me from falling. Finally located the right box and all was well for awhile.

I had candles glowing all through the house, had to unplug the battery in the phone to make it quit buzzing at me and went ahead and ventured outside. I noticed the neighbors didn't have any power either but saw a light shining out on the road. Came back in fumbled for the flashlight and went to see what the neighbors knew.

The transformer blew! The neighbor had already called it in, so I came back inside. There wasn't anything that could be done and I figured it will get looked at in the morning. It was going to be a long hot night with no A/C or computer or tv.

I sat here in the candlelight trying to think of how I was going to keep myself busy till 4am. I thought about going to bed, but what if I did manage to actually get some sleep. Hubby would have no way of getting up, the alarm clock was dead.

I asked myself..what did you used to do before the computer? Read, too dark. Puzzle book, again too dark. This and that, no power, duh! I grabbed up my camera and took some pics.

I then decided that I would tackle some boxes by flashlight. That didn't last long, it was getting too hot. Hubby woke up from the heat and we were sitting around chatting. I opened the door to see if there was a breeze, nope it is humid and hot!

Hubby says what was that?
What?
I saw something outside.
I open the door again and what did I see at 11 at night?
The electric workers were out there!

I love my electric company!!
We were with out power for just under two hours!
That just blows my mind that they were on it so quickly!

Pass the Coffee

I get up from my chair, kiss hubby goodbye and have a nice day. I tell the kids (dogs) it is time to go to bed. We go through the hallway and I stop at the back door, with my hand on the door knob I ask "Do you need to go outside?". If they stop with me then that is a "yes", if they go around me then it is a "no". The two boys stop, Chaquita does not. I let them out and stand there at the door, peering through the window and wait. I have to stand there cause they tend to get distracted at...I think the wind or maybe a field mouse moving the grass and sometimes the neighbors dogs. In which case if any of these things happen the barking is inevitable. I have to try to get them to focus and be quiet, considering...
1. I am tired and barely able to stand without falling over cause I am so tired. Lets hurry up and get this over with!
2. It is usually 4 or 5 in the morning! I don't want them waking anybody and being the troublesome dogs of the neighborhood.

As each dog comes back to the porch, I open the door briefly enough to let them in. I stand there..okay one down, just one more to go. I yell out the window "Hurry up Taco" (he is always the last one) and he finally comes up to the porch, I open the door just wide enough for him to get through and he doesn't come in. I shut the door quickly (still gotta keep an eye on them sneaky cats rushing out the door)and look out the window. He is just standing there sniffing the air, like he is looking for something or anything to bark about.

For some reason he does this at least 70% of the time, it is very aggravating! I ask through the window "Are you done?", this usually leads to him walking for the door. Then you have the other times that seem like he is going deaf! He is 12-14 years old (says the vet), so I do give him some slack and try again.

"Are you done, yet?" If I still don't get a response, I open the door and have to tell him "Come on" and sometimes several times. Now I know he has done his business cause here lately I have been watching to be sure.

Here is how come I've been watching to be sure...

Now remember I don't go to bed till 4-5am. It never fails that Taco wakes me at 9-10am to go outside again. I would say that 5 years ago he was a 7 hour guy, but here lately he is down to 5 hours at the most. So we crawl out of bed and stumble to the door and everybody is ordered out to do their business. This old woman is hoping that if they all go then we can get back to bed and get more hourS sleep.

I can handle getting woke up for a potty break and going back to bed, if it wasn't for this...No more than an hour later, Taco is waking me up AGAIN. Most mornings it is just a thing, but then there are the mornings that I throw back the covers in frustration and grumble, stomp and have a hissy fit!

Good Morning Everyone! !@#$#@!

Pass the coffee...

Okay I think I'm better now!
