Spin Cycle: Blogging

What makes my blog breathe? I'm not really sure that it breathes, but it definitely helps me keep breathing, thinking, remembering and it really helps having followers who think my words and life are worth reading.

I have always lived in rural areas as an adult and I like it like that. I like being removed from the city and all its noise. Living in rural areas and not having the latest technology always available or sometimes affordable, I was forced to have a phone with no long distance. Most all calls were long distance, like to family and even some of my friends. I would go months on end (sometimes years) without talking to certain people cause of the cost.

Getting a computer changed all that! Sister J had a myspace and so that was the first place I went. I ran across the blog page and from that moment on I was hooked. I began blogging so my friends and those long distance family members could get a glimpse of my world and of me. (I also found it to be a great way to deal with my spelling issues and to get my typing skills a boost from one finger to four, plus it forced me to remember things) They were also a way to let my long lost brother (that is another post) to get to know me.

My Step daughter #1 (who I call daughter, I hate the word step) had a blogger page, that is how I was introduced to it. After myspace started changing things and became more about games and music, lots of my friends and family switched over to Facebook. I followed suit but didn't like the blogging area on facebook and so I decided to start my own blog here on blogger.

Welch Happenings was born! While exploring my new surroundings, I went to the Blog of Note and found Kathryn (From the inside out) and Nancy (f8hasit). I was looking for some bloggers I could possible relate to and who weren't over or under my head. I know that sounds bad, so here's the thing...they do sometimes go over my head, but not bad enough that I can't follow what they are saying. Like you all know..the dictionary is within arms reach and gets used A LOT! But I like that, it challenges me to learn new words and even sometimes how to spell it.

Anyway..I found and received some very dear friends just from starting with those two amazing gals.

Am I staying on topic, probably not. Another one of my issues! LOL!

I have run across a lot of folks who write because:
It is their passion in life.
They just want to be heard.
They need an outlet from their daily lives.
They want to pursue a career as a writer.
Many, many other reasons.

I write cause..I am afraid that when I am older I wont be able to remember a darn thing! Dementia runs in my family and grammie had it real bad. She couldn't hardy remember anything and now all those fabulous stories are lost forever. I don't want that to happen to me or my family. I want a chronicle (or Journal, if you will) of my life.

Having my wonderful new blogging friend enjoy my stories and daily junk, makes it even better! Love and Hugs to you all!

i started blogging over 5 years ago. Why? Because I had read about it and I try everything webby that I read about. It was a place to write stuff never thinking anyone but me would read it. It languished for 3 years - I was busy, working, having fun then all of a sudden I started writing almost every day and I started reading other people's blogs and listing myself on blog directories and now I have a small set of regular readers. But that has also changed what and how I write. It is no longer so personal. I know I have an audience, so you may not believe this, but I do edit every thing I say...LOL

I've read a lot of blogs, from the professionals to the just starting outs and I've never seen a reason like yours to begin blogging! I agree that having a journal of sorts is a good way to remember the details, which is why my own site isn't always centered on Sprite. (Although you can't tell sometimes.)
Great Spin and great reason to blog!
You're linked!

You have a beautiful blog. You can never thank your step daughter enough for introducing you to this great way of connecting with people near and far.

Oh, this was a fabulous post! I'm SO GLAD we found each other, sweetie!

And FYI, my thesaurus in "Word" (where I write all my posts) is my very best friend. I am also forcing myself to learn new words all the time. My mom insisted that doing crossword puzzles and writing kept her mind sharp...I think she was on to something.

I look forward to many years of happy blogging together!

Great post!
I started because I was bored at work and loved to write and had been reading other blogs and felt like I was in a one-way relationship with them. I wanted to fully connect.
BUT - as time has gone by, I have absolutely used this forum to remember my life. If I forget something that I think I did and I just remember a certain month it might have been around, I go back to my archives and start searching. It's been wonderful. I've won arguments with my family members before because I have real live evidence of something they said or that we did. Ha! Love it!!

It really is a good way of journaling, but one with warm and fuzzy feedback possibilities. :)

I love reading your blog...you're a real person who doesn't get caught up in your own cleverness, you just put it all out there in your own honest and down-to-Earth way. I know I sure appreciate it! And don't worry about the ones that are over your head...sometimes I have to drag out a dictionary just to understand myself! =)

Grace...I guess we all kinda edit what we say. I try really hard to keep certain touchy subjects out of my posts.

Sprite's Keeper...Thanks, actually I find my reason for blogging, kinda nuts!

Blending Families...Strange, I went to your page and it is not a blog, it is a website on how to deal with step kids. Thanks for stopping by.

Dorothy...Thanks and you are so right. I find I learn things everyday.

Kathryn...Thanks and me too! I have to admit, I have never even opened a (how do you spell it) Thesaurus. I could never do crossword puzzles, they hurt my brain!

Kaylen...That is a gooda reason as any to start a blog and using it as leverage in an disspute is awesome!

Mindy... You so sweet, thanks!
LOL!!! Me too! Half the time I can't figure out the words to get what is rumbling around in my brain to coherent sentences.

Angelia...Aww, thanks! I'm glad we meet too!

Whatever the reason, I'm glad you started. Your blogs are always sincere and down to earth. You are who you are. And you know that's my favorite kind of person! You're also a wonderfully sweet and thoughtful friend. Thank you so much for reading all you'd missed and commenting on every blog! It was so awesome to open my email and have 15 emails from Heather!! I felt loved!

Love and hugs back to you Heather and glad your computer is well again.

I am still not sure why I blog but I would pick wanting to be heard as a reason.

I am glad we met Heather and I am honoured for all your kind comments. They keep me going.

This is my first spin cycle and I love reading how and why others blog. I've made some great friends through blogging. I think thats the reason I keep blogging, because of all the great people out there!

My blog has also turned into a way of chronicling my family's stories. I was never any good at baby books, scrapbooks, or photo albums.

I started over at MySpace like you did! And I blog for the same reasons you do - so I can remember special moments or events that might get lost in old age. ;) Plus like Pines Lake Redhead, I've never been really good at baby books, scrap books or photo albums, so it's a great way to mark those milestones with Princess Nagger and have something to reflect back - or annoy her when she gets older. ;)

The biggest benefit I've found from blogging is meeting a diverse mix of people and gaining new friendships. That is the icing on the cake! :)

Spot...Aww, thank you so much for the lovely compliment. Was that too many emails? LOL!!

Ocean Girl...Your so sweet. Any reason really is just as good as any other, just as long as we blog. Thanks! I will have to look into the flasher thing, but only after teusday.

Blogging Mama Andrea...I am so glad you stopped by and I love doing the spins, they challenge me to try to stay on topic.

Pines Lake Redhead...I really like the idea of having a diary of sorts to look back on. this is the longest and deticated I have ever been on one thing.

Stacy (the Random Cool Chick)...I want to thank you for stopping by and being my newest follower. Thank you soo much!
