The Cardinals

Four pairs of Mourning doves are pecking the ground looking for anything that might be edible. Along comes Mr. Cardinal and his lovely mate.

Look dear, all them doves seem to be finding good things to eat. Lets go and check it out.
Mrs. Cardinal being of the nervous type, chirped in that she just didn't know if it was a good idea.
Mr. Cardinal being unafraid, leads the way.
The pair land in the tree and Mr. Cardinal says.. Now dear you just stay up here and keep watch, I'm sure these doves won't mind sharing.
He leaves her up on the branch, her protests could be heard by all the surrounding watchers.
The brave feats of Mr. Cardinal were well know among the cardinal community and many had come to watch.
He lands on the ground and looks around, hops over a few steps and still finds nothing.
Mrs. Cardinal is yelling...Careful, careful. She flutters from branch to branch to keep a better eye on him. What she sees alarms her. The doves are getting closer and closer to her hubby and he's not paying attention. It is beginning to look like they are surrounding him. She is in full panic now and yelling even louder. Enough! We can go somewhere else!
Mr. Cardinal flies up to her and tries to calm her. See dear, the doves are not even bothered by me, if they were then they would have drove me off by now.
Mrs. Cardinal calms herself and agrees that he is right, but her nerves wouldn't let her relax.
She asks did you find anything good to eat? Trying to find something else to focus on, which wasn't hard cause her tummy was hungry.
No, nothing. I just can't understand what these doves are finding that is soo good. I am going to give it one more try and then we can move on.
Once again he leaves his nervous wife in the tree and ventures down to the ground.
This time he thinks he has found something, he takes it up to her and they crack the shell. She takes one bite and says..this is awful!
He goes down again and still finds nothing new. Distraught over finding nothing he ventures away from the area a little bit.
He heard the rustle of the doves flying away and turned to see what was up. He was frozen in his spot by the stare of a huge orange CAT.
Suddenly he remembered his wife and all their friends were watching and he ruffled up his feathers and willed his body into motion.
His delayed response was almost the end for him. The cat leaped and barely missed his tail feathers, by a tooth. Mr. Cardinal felt the cats breathe on his tail and thought for sure this was it, the last day to fly, ever again.
When he landed on the tree branch, he was soo surprised he squawked as loudly as he could! He turned to look at his wife who had flew to his side, she was soo shocked and scared she was utterly speechless.
When Mrs. Cardinal finally got her feathers smoothed out and found her voice again. Dear do you think we can move on now? I have had enough of your risk taking ways for one day.
Mr. Cardinal agreed. Yes dear, this day has been a bit too much for me. I am ready to go home and nestle down for the evening.

And they were off.

One of these Days!

One of these days I am going to be down one less cat! The monster Whiskers has been at it again and OMG I am so friggin MAD!

Apparently the birds are out and about trying to feed up for the winter or something, cause there are a crap load in my yard and driving Whiskers to run from window to window. Like here he is now, he just jumped up on the desk to chase ...what? A bird, a lizard, the tree branch is moving in the wind...who knows!

Thank goodness I don't need my mouse at this point, cause his butt is on it.

I'm sure your wondering why am I so mad at him...
Well, see that window there, note that it no longer has a screen on it.

That's right this stupid cat seems to think that if he body slams the screen in pursuit of a bird than he will catch it. Instead the bird gets away and he is hanging from a very old screen that rips from its seams and comes crashing down.

Chasing birds is fine but when it tends to destroy my house, then it is war!

There are about two dozen doves out there under the tree.

It is going to be a long day. I wonder what else he is going to destroy. Gawd I hope it's not my curtains! He wont live if it is!

Bird's Nest BBQ

Hubby asks: I wonder how long it takes for the babies to leave the nest?

Yes, this could be taken all kinds of ways, but I knew to what he was referring to.

The bbq pit has a birds nest in it, with 3 babies. We have watched this mother work very hard to build her nest and hubby almost messed it up by opening the bbq pit. He thought she was just in the process of building it, only to realise she had already lain her eggs. He fretted over it for days, wanting me to watch to be sure she came back. Yes she came back, thank goodness. Last week I caught her going in and out, bringing her babies grubs to eat. Wow she sure does work hard providing for her youngins. I could hear them softly crying every time she left and then go crazy when she came back with food. I get a lot of enjoyment from nature in the making right before my eyes.

Well back to hubby's question. Him asking this can only mean one thing, he has bbq on the brain. This surprised me! We have lived here for almost 2 years and he has only bbq'ed twice. I pretty much had given up on the idea of him ever bbq'ing again.

I asked what he had in mind to bbq and he was every wishy washy with his answer. But he did decide that he could use the other pit instead. Anyway no more was said about it and I basically forgot about it, until today when I went grocery shopping.

I figured a brisket could feed us for the week and he would get the enjoyment of getting to bbq.

I bring home the brisket and tell him it is ready for him to dress (you know, put all the fixings on it). He looks at me, smiles and says "I don't have any wood".

OH GOOD LORD!!! (Aggravation settling in) I wasn't upset with him, I was perturbed at myself for spending the money on a brisket that I'm going to have to cook in the house. This HOT house!! All the a/c's on at once is not going to make this any better.

I'm sure your thinking "What about charcoal?"

We have a charcoal pit and a wood pit, guess which one the bird and her family is in!!

Speaking Of...

Well, what to say today...

I guess I was a bit misleading with my spin this week. I did step on the scales but not that particular day, it was more like a few weeks ago. It was still fresh in my head as if I had done it that day. Some bad things just stay in my mind and this was one of them. The thought of being that big, was nawing at me every single day.

My offical weigh in this morning revealed 216! I had to call my mom cause I knew I was on the phone with her at the last time I pulled the scales out. Mom, When was it, that we weigh ourselves together? That was nearly three weeks ago! Dang where did the time go? I must really be getting old, that three weeks feels like yesterday! LOL! Like hubby say "It was just the other day" When it was really months or years ago!

Anyway, back to the topic...
I know yall didn't have a clue otherwise, but I reread the post and realized I wasn't very clear on that point and I hate to have my records wrong. I have found that typing things and saying things or even thinking things don't always come out the same.

Speaking of records...

I was just doing my check book and somewhere, somehow there is $10 missing. This is going to drive me insane looking to find the mistake. In my world ten dollars is a big deal. It is ten dollars that could pay for half of hubby's lunch supplies or could be used to buy me another pair of big baggy pants or two more bags of potting soil!

I will find it, but so far I haven't. I have spent most of the morning looking through everything with no luck.

This is why I am so late getting a post done.

Speaking of potting soil...
Here is my little burst of color, that I have managed to keep alive so far!

If you will click on this last pic you will see there is a humming bird on the feeder. Too cute, I love them.

Tagged

I was tagged by Suzicate (months ago)to tell you ten things about me that you don’t already know. I bet you thought I missed that or forgot about it. NOT, just lazy.

1) I am a stocker. I stock up on household items. A habit that was formed when hubby started hauling locally. The job is weather based and the winter months checks can be very small. So I stock up for us to make it through the winter. I sound like a chipmunk! LOL!

2) I love any candy that involves chocolate and peanut butter. Reese's are my weakness! I have to stay away from the candy isle at the store!

3) I have awful feet. Some people are so blessed to have beautiful and/or pain free feet. I am not one of them! My toes never grew right cause my shoes were too small as a child, they curled. The bones are not straight, they give me hot burning pain from time to time and I have one toe that loses feeling. I also have a friggin bunion!!

4) I eat Tums like crazy. I have heartburn all the time.

5) I am hooked on Jewel Quest Solitaire!

6) I am obsessed with the silverware drawer being perfect. Everything must be in its proper slot. Hubby messes with me all the time, by throwing the silverware in the drawer! Even stuff that don't belong in that drawer!

7) My Dictionary and my Atlas are the most frequently opened books in my house. The dictionary...cause YALL USE A LOT OF BIG WORDS!!

8) If the phone rings in this house it is 98% of the time someone in my family. Mom, Dad, sister, brothers, SIL's, niece and even MIL's!

9) I must have a night light on. Not that I am afraid of the dark, but this is more for the reason that I am a clutz!

10) I love to watch birds. Hummingbirds are my favorite. I put out two hummingbird feeders and sit on the patio with my coffee and just watch.

Now, who to pass this on to?
