I hope to do better...

I guess you could say I got quite bored with blogging. I mean let's face it, I don't live a very exciting life. Most days I dream up stuff to do to fill my day, watch a movie, play games, go for walks, take pictures, talk on the phone, light housework and of course crocheting. To tell you the truth, I'm pretty boring. My day doesn't brighten till the hubs gets home and that's only an hour or two before he hits the hay.

Here lately I have been filling my time with crocheting, and have gotten alot of it done. Well that time is about over since the high today will be 87, impossible to work with yarn and blankets in that weather.

Soo, what's left? Do I return to the blogging world and try to win all my friends back or do I find something else to comsume my time? For now, I have opted to try to win back the bloggy love. Yall have all been so kind and patient with me, I really don't deserve such loyalty, considering I can't even remember the last time I read some one elses blog. I am determined to read at least ten blogs a day, so if I don't get around to you but once a week, please bear with me. Ten blogs is about 2-3 hours of my day, so it's a start.

Tuesday I started my spring cleaning and totally kicked A** in the livingroom, it was spic and span by time I got done. Although it did take all day to do it. Yesterday, I started tearing apart my closet, getting it all reorganized and in top shape but halfway through the process I started not feeling well. Temp of 101.2 and feeling run over. I spent the rest of the day in and outta bed till this afternoon. My fever broke and all I am left with is a sore and constant tickle in my throat. Thank goodness it wasn't one of those long drawn out death scenes, where you not completely convinced your going to make it through.

I guess I'd better close this up, so I can get to reading them blog posts. See ya around.

Making it through the winter chores...

There is just something about the winter months that keeps me soo busy.

First it's the holidays and all of it's hoopla, get ready for, then doing and then there is the recooping. Then we move into the switching over to the new year, for me that is a big deal. Switch out all the previous folders of bills and reciepts, tally the expenses of the year, file away all this junk and throw away the stuff from years past (but first go through it all and determine that it is throw awayable). Then there is all the stuff that was in storage that we are going through and repackaging, organizing and downsizing, what a chore. AND lets not forget TAX season, what a big stresser! Naturally I had to add to the mess with taking on 6 crochet projects to be finished before the warmer weather kicks in, which happens fast here in Texas.

Well I made it through all the paperwork and craziness and managed to get it all done. My desk is finally clean and my drawers/folders are ready for the new year, finally. The holidays are finally behind me (except for hubby's upcoming b-day)and the crocheting is more than half done. Still working on the storage stuff.

Maybe now that I have eliminated a large portion of it all, I will be able to think straight and get back on track with this blog and all my friends.

Taking some time for the Special Olympics.

So your probably wondering what happened, where have I been, what have I been up too?

What happened...Well first I got sick but was still trying to stay with it. The lingering dizziness and fatigue that is still here, but has eased up a little, have really taken its toll on me body and mind. If you feel neglected, you should see my house! Hubby has done the dishes for me many times since this thing set in. Bless his heart!

Where have I been...Well I'm embarrassed to say I have been right here, hiding in the cloud of a mindless woman. Okay that was stretching the truth, but it was like that at first. I guess you could say I detached myself from blogger, not literally but mentally. I know it's not fair to yall for me to be soo neglectful, it wasn't intentional,, it just evolved it to a blah. Matter of a fact all my Internet experiences of late have been a blah. Does that mean I am done with blogging? No, it just means it's a little slow around here in this old brain of mine. Maybe I will slow down for now, hubby has been very happy to have lots of my attention and it's been good for me too.

What have I been up to?...Crocheting! Yeah it is finally in the temps of crocheting weather. It is a passion that definitely interferes with blog reading or creating, very difficult to crochet and blog at the same time, well at least for me it is.

My perfect model

I finished up some unfinished projects and went looking for yarn on ebay, when I couldn't find what color I was looking for I went to the Red Heart site. My world changed for that one decision. Up at the top of their site is a "Follow us on Facebook" button. I did that! Then I learnt of the Special Olympics Scarf Project. The details are here, just in case your interested as much as I am. I even got my bf to get busy with some scarfs and trying to talk the old man at our local craft store to put up flyers.

My current work with the Special Olympics colors

It's funny..last year I pretty much skipped crocheting season and this year I can barely put it down. I am having a lot of fun, knowing some of my work is for such a good cause doesn't hurt.

The scarf I sold

Oh and I posted my finished work on the Read Heart Yarn Facebook page and sold my first scarf! I guess you could say that motivates me even more to get the most out of this season as I can. I also signed myself up for the next available knitting classes here in my local town, that should be interesting.

Hope yall wont miss me too much, but I'll still be around just not as often. Okay soo back to work I go!

Playing Around With Blogger

I got sent an email last month about New blogger templates. Pictured templates and even 3 or 4 columns. You costumize everything to your own taste. They have many options to choose from.

Go to Blogger Template Disigner. Where is says "Try it now" click on the link and click on the template designer tab and there ya go. It even has a preview of your page right there, you can see your changes as you make them.

I really liked it and thought I would give it a whirl.

Soo, what do ya think? Tell me what needs to be changed. Is the text to light? Is the link colors seeable? (Hmm..is that a word?)

Am I still playing it safe or should I go wilder? LOL! I did see one that was a little crazy, maybe I should shake things up in here! Okay I better stop, I'm cracking myself up!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other news for today...I am going to have another neice in August. I know yall are probably thinking I am too old to still be having neices and nephews. Well, lets just say..daddy was still dishing out kids even after I should have been. LOL!
Spin Cycle: Blogging
What makes my blog breathe? I'm not really sure that it breathes, but it definitely helps me keep breathing, thinking, remembering and it really helps having followers who think my words and life are worth reading.
I have always lived in rural areas as an adult and I like it like that. I like being removed from the city and all its noise. Living in rural areas and not having the latest technology always available or sometimes affordable, I was forced to have a phone with no long distance. Most all calls were long distance, like to family and even some of my friends. I would go months on end (sometimes years) without talking to certain people cause of the cost.
Getting a computer changed all that! Sister J had a myspace and so that was the first place I went. I ran across the blog page and from that moment on I was hooked. I began blogging so my friends and those long distance family members could get a glimpse of my world and of me. (I also found it to be a great way to deal with my spelling issues and to get my typing skills a boost from one finger to four, plus it forced me to remember things) They were also a way to let my long lost brother (that is another post) to get to know me.
My Step daughter #1 (who I call daughter, I hate the word step) had a blogger page, that is how I was introduced to it. After myspace started changing things and became more about games and music, lots of my friends and family switched over to Facebook. I followed suit but didn't like the blogging area on facebook and so I decided to start my own blog here on blogger.
Welch Happenings was born! While exploring my new surroundings, I went to the Blog of Note and found Kathryn (From the inside out) and Nancy (f8hasit). I was looking for some bloggers I could possible relate to and who weren't over or under my head. I know that sounds bad, so here's the thing...they do sometimes go over my head, but not bad enough that I can't follow what they are saying. Like you all know..the dictionary is within arms reach and gets used A LOT! But I like that, it challenges me to learn new words and even sometimes how to spell it.
Anyway..I found and received some very dear friends just from starting with those two amazing gals.
Am I staying on topic, probably not. Another one of my issues! LOL!
I have run across a lot of folks who write because:
It is their passion in life.
They just want to be heard.
They need an outlet from their daily lives.
They want to pursue a career as a writer.
Many, many other reasons.
I write cause..I am afraid that when I am older I wont be able to remember a darn thing! Dementia runs in my family and grammie had it real bad. She couldn't hardy remember anything and now all those fabulous stories are lost forever. I don't want that to happen to me or my family. I want a chronicle (or Journal, if you will) of my life.
Having my wonderful new blogging friend enjoy my stories and daily junk, makes it even better! Love and Hugs to you all!
Nascar
Hubby was in a stooper when Nascar was over last November.
He's been talking about its return ever since, even marking of the days on his mental calender. Calulating how many more days to wait and working himself into exitement.
Today is the day, Daytona shootout is finally here. For the last 45 minutes he has been watching the Speed channel for all the talking with drivers, clips of practice and learning the new rules.
He hasn't done any of his usual remote control playing. This is flipping inbetween channels and pulling up the guide, checking to make sure he isn't missing something on another channel. Now why can't he behave like that when I'm watching something!
All of a sudden I had a lapse in brain power. I let the words escape from my lips and as soon as I did I realized my blunder.
What's on tonight?
A usual statement, not out of the ordinary.
The look on his face, was like I had totally lost it!
I busted out laughing.
He was not!
Hubby...Go play your game! Go blog! Go ault gelt delete! Whip out your history or your cookies! Better yet bring me some cookies!
I am totally LMAO!!
I got told to go blog! LOL!! That's a first.
So here I am on a saturday evening with nothing to watch, except for the occasional "come look" "Babe, come see this". Those instances was to go look at Dale Earnhardt's facial hair. Thanks I'll pass.
My Old Myspace Blogs
I am very empty headed this morning. It is too cold to think straight! What happened to our beautiful Texas fall weather? Over night it is gone and so are the remaining leaves that were trying so hard to stay on their limbs. Now I look out my front door and the porch is covered in leaves, I try not to look at the yard. Soo much raking in my very near future (like tomorrow).
Anyways..with nothing on my brain today, I thought I would send your attention over to my other blog. I started it just a little while back. I started blogging over in Myspace about a year ago and I thought I would bring them over here for the world to like or hate. I was just a beginner to the computer age, so some of them are really bad! I'm sure that some are worth a laugh or two at least.
An Award from Maureen
I have been graciously given another Kreativ Blogger award from Maureen. Which I am very happy to accept!
Kreativ Blogger Award
I would like to thank Maureen for recognizing my efforts to keep this blog at least a little bit interesting.
I would also like to thank all of my readers for being so supportive and not thinking or telling me that I am boring and for voicing their responses. I in turn do my best to answer all comments. Something I learned from watching others with their own blogs, thank you for teaching me blog etiquette.
What I am supposed to do is write 7-10 facts about me, then pass the "Kreativ Blogger" award on to other bloggers I like.
So here we go...
1) I have 3 Chihuahua's and 2 cats, they and hubby are my world.
2)I am a klutz, I can trip up the stairs just as easily as tripping down them. I can even trip myself with my own feet! I bump into things all the time. I can look down at my legs and count 3 bruises on my calves, but those are tiny. I have done worse! I once got a super sized one by walking into the leg of a bed frame that was leaning up against the wall on moving day.
3) I have recurring nightmares. Example:
I was napping today and had a familiar nightmare or napmare. The plot: I was at a old friends house visiting and had my dogs with me. Upon leaving after dark, one of my dogs run out the door. I'm yelling and running only to get to the door and see my dog being maulled by a wild dog. I of course wake up from the horror.
The people some times change and the location are never the same, but the plot remaims unchanged. That was just one example, there are more plots that do this to me.
4) Some of you may know this already: I was a runaway teenager. I am of course not proud of this, but it did teach me a lot of things I would never have learnt otherwise..like..
Some men can be nice just for the sake of being nice and not want someting in return.
That my family really did care about me and not just want me around for the sake of being a babysitter and maid.
That my Aunt was the coolest woman in my life at the time.
5) I have made a number of friends here that most all want to write or have written a book. I feel so out of place. I probably make all English teachers cringe! Due to my youthful lack of interest in school, I regret that now.
6) My mom and I have become real good friends. That didn't happen over night! It took a lot of drunken nights of calling her and proceeding to lay all the blame on her, for EVERYTHING! We finally came to a truce about 7 years ago and we have gotten closer than ever, ever since.
7) I am the "go to" person in my crazy family. I get phone calls from all in the family, either just to yak or to vent about someone else in the family. It is a very difficult task to try to keep the peace, but it's my job and I give it my best.
8) It drives me INSANE to hear the news people saying: "Americans are holding on to their money, instead of spending it". I would like to know where I am holding it, both of my hands are empty! Maybe I just forgot where I hide the hundreds or even thousands of dollars I've been holding onto. Would make a great presant to find IT!! If I had IT, I would definately spend IT!!
That is about it for now.
Now to pass this on to other worthy winners:
Kristin A new find. She's just come back to blogging, so far her posts have been good reads.
Life in the slow lane Another new find. Her writing is interesting.
The suburban Life Another new find. Very funny!
Lulu A newcomer. Her post are funny, interseting and well written. I think. Althought she is super sick right now, I'm sure she will continue to keep posting.
Spot, does this count as a "Spread the word Thursday"? I should be good for a month right? "No"...well I had to give it a shot!
Old Blogger Page
About a year and a half ago, I started a blogger page. I did it so I would be able to comment on my step daughter #1's blog. I had done a few (3) posts on it and one in particular was very dear to me. I found Myspace and I jumped into writing all my blogs over there and completely forgot about the one I had started here.
When I finally did remember that one particular post, about eight months later I tried to login but I had forgotten all of my login info and had lost the post-it-note that it was written on.
When I come back to blogger two months ago, I had to create a whole new one and try to go on as if the other was never there or chalk it up to a loss.
Step daughter #2 informed me today that she had difficulty finding my blog. I just knew it was cause of the old one.
I took up the task of going through every scrap piece of paper in my files, quite a daunting task considering I get distracted very easy.
Many hours later, I found that little piece of paper.
I've found my old blogger page at last!
I noticed right off, that I had used the exact same name: Welch Happenings on both pages. No wonder she had a hard time.
Well all is fixed now and I got to save that particular post that I was sure was lost.
I don't know how many "Welch Happenings" there are out there in blogger world, but at least now I know that I only have one.
New template and such
As you can obviously see I changed the template, added some new features and got rid of some.
Some people would consider me, still a newbie in the computer world. I got my first hand me down computer, just a year and a half ago. I really enjoyed Myspace, especially the blog part. I learned a lot through trying to build pages for the profile and blog. With the help from my brother and Janet I felt confident enough to set up pages for 3 of my family members. I eventually ventured on to Facebook, I was disappointed with not be able to do anything with the page, but loved that all my family is there. I decided to get back to writing blogs, (just everyday stuff) like my 150 blogs on Myspace. So here I am!
When I first got here (last month) I was lost! I had no clue what I could or could not do with the page. After browsing through the tabs, I learnt I could use a template from another source. In my haste to get something up, I grabbed the first pretty one I saw. It was pretty, but just didn't feel like it was ME.
I avoided trying to dig any further into the settings, in fear of messing something up. I did have to fix some minor issues, (I thought they were minor) like the problem with the comment box. Well, thank goodness for issues. In trying to fix them, gave me the confidence to mess with other things.
In viewing other peoples blogs, I was seeing lots of neat features. I particularly liked the clock feature and went to the websites blogger suggested. I tried and tried to get this on my page, with no luck! I ended up settling for another through the blogger/google add ons. I think it worked out quite well with the background I chose.
I hope that the new comment box will make things easier for my readers. It better! I had a heck of a time getting that!
All in all, eleven hours of labor and this is what you get. My beautiful new baby! LOL!
Zombiefied
Sorry, there might not be any blogs for a few days. I finally found a dentist who had some decent prices (compared to others) and had that tooth pulled.
I am doped up on Vicodin and can't function or stay awake. I am a mindless, drooling zombie!
Will try to catch up, maybe tomorrow.
